How I Can Stop Arguing So I Can Talk To You

A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control. Pr 29:11

32“If you have played the fool and exalted yourself, or if you have planned evil, clap your hand over your mouth! 33For as churning the milk produces butter, and as twisting the nose produces blood, so stirring up anger produces strife.” Proverbs 30:32-33

I CAN STOP ARGUING WITH MY SPOUSE WHEN

1. I Understand [WHY I AM ANGRY]

7As they danced, they sang: “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands.” 8Saul was very angry; this refrain galled him. “They have credited David with tens of thousands,” he thought, “but me with only thousands. What more can he get but the kingdom?” 1 Samuel 18:7-9

I Become Angry Because I Am       1,) Hurt,       2,) Frustrated,       3) Insecure,      4.) and Threatened

FOUR WAYS I CAN EXPRESS MY ANGER

Like Cain--The Manic (Genesis 4: 5,8), King Ahab--The Sullen Mute (1 Kings 21:4),

The Prodigal's Brother--The Martyr (Luke 15:28), & The Pharisees--The Manipulators (Luke 6:11)

2. I Look To [GOD] Not [MY MATE] For My Self Worth.

14And it will be said: “Build up, build up, prepare the road! Remove the obstacles out of the way of my people.” 15For this is what the high and lofty One says— he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite. Isaiah 57:14-15

3. I Slow Down and [THINK BEFORE I REACT]

FACT: To Slow Down or Be Angry Are [CHOICES I MAKE ON HOW TO THINK]

To Slow Down I Must Choose To Think About

The [BENEFITS]

29A patient man has great understanding, but a quick-tempered man displays folly. 30A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones. Proverbs 14:29-30

Getting Rid Of My Anger With the [WORD OF GOD]

19My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. 21Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. James 1:19-21

Relying On the [HOLY SPIRIT]

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-25
