Play Crazy People lyric video from Casting Crowns
That video was from Casting Crowns and the song is titled crazy people.
If we are honest with ourselves there is at least something that we do that others would consider crazy.
Today we are going to look at a couple of the characters of the Bible that most people would probably have said was crazy at the time.
Hebrews Chapter 11 contains what many people call the Hall of Faith, it is where a lot of the Old Testament stories discussed and how that faith was counted as their righteousness.

Noah

Hebrews 11:7 (NIV)
7 By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.
This tells us that Noah built the ark because he was warned by God. I dont know about you but even I would probably think if my neighbor told me these things that he was a little crazy.
It reminds me of a clip from the movie Evan almighty
Play Evan Almighty clip
So that movie is about a modern day flood, but lets look at what God actually told Noah
Genesis 6:9–14 (NIV)
Noah and the Flood
9 This is the account of Noah and his family.
Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. 10 Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.
11 Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. 12 God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. 13 So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. 14 So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out.
Genesis 6:22 (NIV)
22 Noah did everything just as God commanded him.
Now Biblical Scholars believe that it took Noah approx 120 years to build this boat. Now im sure that there were a ton of people that would walk by every single day and think this man has to be crazy, but what we find is that because he was willing to obey God the entire human race was saved, as well as the animals.

Abraham

Hebrews 11:8–9 (NIV)
8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. 9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise.
So we see here that Abraham obeyed even though he didnt know where he was going.
It would be like if I loaded up a Uhaul and told heather hey hop in we are moving. She would ask where are we moving to, and I would say something like I dont know but I will know it when I see it. Thats kind of what happened with Abraham we see this in Genesis 12
Genesis 12:1–4 (NIV)
The Call of Abram
12 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
2 “I will make you into a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.”
4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran.

Moses

Hebrews 11:23 (NIV)
23 By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.
This has to be one of the crazier stories of the Bible. Moses’ parents hid a baby for 3 months. Now I dont know about you, but it would be kind of difficult hiding a baby.
Wow are you pregnant? nope just ate a lot of pizza
What was that crying sound I hears? Crying you werent hearing crying that was our cat.
But thats not the only crazy part of this story. lets look at what happened after she could not hide Moses anymore.
Exodus 2:3–7 (NIV)
3 But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile. 4 His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him.
5 Then Pharaoh’s daughter went down to the Nile to bathe, and her attendants were walking along the riverbank. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her female slave to get it. 6 She opened it and saw the baby. He was crying, and she felt sorry for him. “This is one of the Hebrew babies,” she said.
7 Then his sister asked Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?”
So they put Moses into a basket covered it with tar and put the baby and the basket into the water.

Conclusion

If we look at these three examples we see one thing that they have in common is that they all would have been considered a little crazy. If we are going to be followers of Jesus we are going to have to be a little bit crazy, but thats because we follow a God that can do the impossible.
What would you do if you knew that you could not fail? - Jerry Falwell Sr
No matter what you are doing, if you are called by God to do it, and you are following God you cannot fail.
