KNOWING GOD MORE

The word GOD is found more in the book of Romans than any other New Testament book.
Paul would have been working for GOD for about 20 years at this point.
Paul didn’t start the church in Rome.
Paul had never been to Rome.
Romans 1:1–2 CSB
Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God—which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures—
a servant of CHRIST JESUS
CALLED
SET APART
Promised beforehand not something new.
Romans 1:3–4 CSB
concerning his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who was a descendant of David according to the flesh and was appointed to be the powerful Son of God according to the Spirit of holiness by the resurrection of the dead.
Jesus Christ is the Lord
Paul tells us that Jesus is from the line of David.
appointed
resurrection of the dead (Jesus can bet death)
Romans 1:5–6 CSB
Through him we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the Gentiles, including you who are also called by Jesus Christ.
Obedience of Faith? We don’t like this!
all the Gentiles, this means you.
this apply to you who are called too.
So Paul opens his letter sharing Jesus!!!
Romans 1:7 CSB
To all who are in Rome, loved by God, called as saints. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Paul now tells us to who he is writing
Paul knows that they are loved by God
It is easy to know that we are all sinners but do we know that we are all loved by God.
They were called to be saints (so have you)
Romans 1:8–10 CSB
First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you because the news of your faith is being reported in all the world. God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in telling the good news about his Son—that I constantly mention you, always asking in my prayers that if it is somehow in God’s will, I may now at last succeed in coming to you.
WOW, what a witness their faith was reported in all the world.
This was a little before FaceBook. This was even before MySpace.
I’m praying for you “I constantly mention you”
I want to come to you. Never meet them
Romans 1:11–12 CSB
For I want very much to see you, so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you, that is, to be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine.
Paul want give of him self in order to strengthen the church in Rome.
What a great way to view the Church. How can I strengthen it.
But no only that he wants to be encouraged by them as well.
We should draw strength and encouragement from one an other.
Romans 1:13–15 CSB
Now I don’t want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that I often planned to come to you (but was prevented until now) in order that I might have a fruitful ministry among you, just as I have had among the rest of the Gentiles. I am obligated both to Greeks and barbarians, both to the wise and the foolish. So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.
I AM EAGER
Are we eager for the gospel, are we eager for what GOD has called us to do?
It is interesting Paul wants to go to Rome but stuff keep stoping him, but he does get there as a prisoner. Probably not what he we planning.
Romans 1:16–17 CSB
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith.
This is the Foundation of the rest of the Book.
I am not ashamed of the gospel,
To be crucified was shameful
The POWER of GOD for salvation.
to everyone who believes
The righteous will live by faith.
