God’s Will for believers is that we grow in sanctification.

Walk in Purity (1-8)

The Purpose - we are to please God.
We are called to abstain from “sexual immorality” (pornea). It is any sexual relationship outside the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman. God’s intent toward us is good, a powerful binding relationship. But outside of marriage that binding force become destructive to God’s good purpose for your life. (like a river out of control).
Illustration - Nolan Ryan signed baseball. Sanctified and set apart for a purpose. The purpose can be recovered although scars may remain.
The Penalty - a matter of eternity. The Lord will avenge those that defraud or take advantage of one another through sin. A follower of Christ cannot go on living in sin without severe discipline.
1 Corinthians 6:9–11 NASB95
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
The Power for Purity - the inward work of the Holy Spirit.
We are called to holiness because we have the Holy Spirit living within us.
1 Cor 6:18-20 “Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”

Grow in Charity (Love) (9-10)

The Lord commands us to love one another John 13:35 “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.””
Honor - Romans 12:10 “Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.”
Support - Galatians 6:2 “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
Forgive - Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
Encourage - 1 Thess 5:11 “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.”
Confess and Pray - James 5:16 “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”

Live Honestly (11-12)

Live at peace with others by working diligently and walking in integrity.
Application:
Yield your body to the Lord. Ask God to fill you with His Holy Spirit so that you may walk to please him today!
