As some of you know I am Ethnically latin. I have fairer skin and no accent, I was educated down the street here in the Sycamore district and at Moeller High School, so there is not a lot of evidence physically. But I do take too much joy in walking into Spanish speaking spaces and just letting it rip.
Growing up, my folks would teach us some words here some phrases there. Then we moved to brazil...
Main Point: Pentecost is a celebration of a new Harvest of all people believing in the good news of God in Christ.
Acts 2
Verse 1: Pentecost: 50th day are harvest party. (Birthday of the church)
Verse 2: Violent wind and fire: (Numa: Spirit and Wind) Theophany, and gifts of spirit, Fulfillment of the OT predictions of the the future. Also the Spirits work to build the church in the rest of the the book.

Heard the disciples in their own tongue…there is the miraculous. What is proclaimed is the good news of God.
Main Point: Pentecost is a celebration of a new Harvest of all people believing in the good news of God in Christ.
Genesis 11 and Acts 2
Highlights of Gen.
On this side of the Garden of Eden. The people want to make a name for themselves and put themselves into the heavenly spaces.
Language and one creed, They want to Ascend, make a name for themselves. The Lord Intervenes, disperses geography and speech and you are left with Babel.
Highlights of Acts.
There are many languages from many geographies. Instead of Ascending, The Lord Descends and the people all understand. And instead of their Glory or their name there is the elevation of the mighty works of God. Instead of Babel, Jerusalem.
Main Point: Pentecost is a celebration of a new Harvest of all people believing in the good news of God in Christ.
A few applications of this text.
We do not elevate to go to God. God has come to us. The Gospel is the good news of Salvation by Grace through faith. Most religion says you behave you are accepted. Christianity is you are accepted you behave.
The second thing: We need to keep an eye on the harvest, and the harvest will come by proclamation to every tribe tongue and nation.
Third thing: We are in the age of the Spirit among us. The church does not grow according to our talent. The Church grows according to the will of The Spirit.
Final Thing: The work of the church should bring about a multi ethnic family focused on the work of God. The multiethnic family is not the work of God that is in focus. THe work of God in focus is Christ Crucified. That being said ethnically exclusive thinking should die the death of pentecost and long to see a family from every tongue tribe and nation.

Friends I finish today reminding us of the cross of Christ. Pentecost is the Birthday of the church, whereby filled with the spirit the church goes to all the families of the world to tell them that God has come in human flesh died on the cross to save them and is risen again. The message we carry must be one of work of Christ for all people in his death. We are deserving the scattering of the disobedient people in Gen 11. Instead we are reunited under the Cross of Jesus. Let us have that message ever on our lips that we would reap a harvest of a Pentecost church from among our families and neibors to the ends of the earth. Amen and amen.
