June 4, 2023 - How to be transformed by the Fruit of Holy Spirit

First 13 says for you've been called to live in Freedom, my brothers and sisters but don't use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead use your freedom to serve one another and love for the whole lot can be summed up in one command. Love your neighbor as yourself but if you're always biting and devouring one another watch out beware of destroying one another. So I say let the holy spirit, guide your lives then you won't be doing what your simple nature. Craves the simple teacher wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the spirit wants, and the spirit gives us the desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you're not free to carry out your good intentions. But when you are directed by the spirit, you are not under the obligation of the law of Moses. For when you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear, sexual immorality and Purity. Lustful Pleasures idolatry sorcery. Hostility quarreling jealousy, the outbursts of anger selfish ambition to Central Division. Envy drunkenness, wild parties and other seems like these. Let me tell you again as I have before that, anyone living, that sort of life will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives love and joy and peace and patience. Kindness goodness peacefulness gentle as and self-control there's no law against these things. Those who belong to Jesus Christ have nailed their passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross. And if crucified them there, since we are living by the spirit, let's follow the spirit leading in every part of our Lives. Can we pray?

Lord, it is.

We were reminded again this morning Lord to that. It is such an honor and a privilege. To be able to come before you in prayer.

That somehow. You breathed the breath of life into this clump of dirt and created us. And then came and died on the cross. So we could be friends again with you.

so that we can come boldly before the throne of grace,

Lord help us to never take prayer for granted. Help us to never take how you work in our lives as anything, but Supernatural.

Holy Spirit. Give us words to hear what you're saying to your church today and give us Hearts to obey. What you tell us to do in Jesus name. Amen.

Now, I don't know about you but I know I I love the fruit of the spirit, you know, probably most of us have scripture verse that scripture verse somewhere in our house. We might have different artwork with it. You know, with love joy, peace, patience to ourselves. Hoping it'll help it grow in US it might you know, God's word has a way of not coming back void. Other times, we speak it to people as a way to whack them back into line, show them how their life doesn't line up with scripture.

It'll getting mad at the right things that we can get mad at is not the Fruit of the Spirit. being able to quote the fruit of the spirit isn't the fruits, the same as growing, the Fruit of the Spirit, You're knowing right, we should call that Orthodoxy is not the same is not the fruit of the spirit knowing, right? Isn't enough. Orthopraxy doing right hand, be the Fruit of the Spirit. Can I explain the problem of fruit better? Well this is the problem that I find. Through most of my Christian Life, I have believed this. I've taught this, I have given little forms for you to check off that. I use the fruit of the spirit as a checklist is he how spiritually mature I am. You know, how am I doing, even spiritual life? Did I have enough? Or did I need more love and joy and peace and patience and kindness and goodness and faithfulness and gentleness and self-control. You know, how did I measure up to God stand? Hopefully, is that?

It, it's not a checklist stop thinking of it like a checklist. The fruit of the spirit is not a checklist for Spiritual maturity. The fruit of the spirit are the results of putting to death. The spirit, the sinful nature. And keeping in step with Holy Spirit, that's what we just read. It's putting to death, the sinful nature and keeping in step with Holy Spirit, guess what? You can't do that, without Holy Spirit. It's been working in you to do that.

Said it makes it possible for you to it to me for this fruit to naturally grow in you. Look at with Paul tells the church in Rome in Romans 12 12 to he says, therefore urge you brothers and sisters in view of God's. Mercy to offer, your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, this is your spiritual act of worship. Don't conform any longer to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you'll be able to test an approved. What God's will is good, pleasing and perfect, will Mark that don't conform, but be transformed. Okay. Then we're going to go to the Fusion Sport, 21 and 23. Look what he says here. He said, since you've heard about Jesus and have learned the truth to come from him, throw off your sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lots and desire. Instead, let the spirit, renew your thoughts and attitudes put on your new nature, created to be like God righteous and holy

Search for translation up there at this one. I liked better. Anyway, so don't conform, but be transformed. Let the spirit, renew your thoughts and attitude. It's Holy Spirit, who transforms us. It's not something we can do it. Ourselves, we didn't save ourselves. We won't transform ourselves. Paul tells the Galatians, you can't start finish in the flesh. What you started in the spirit That principle is through everything. If we started by Holy Spirit, we can't finish without Holy Spirit.

And this is what it said. We've already read a Galatians 5:16, I say walk by the spirit you won't gratify the desires of your nature and I really do appreciate how the New Living Translation approaches. Galatians 5:22 says about the Holy Spirit. Four. Deuces is kind of fruit in our lives. The love that you're the pages, the piece of patients, the kindness and goodness, the faithfulness, the gentlest of self-control. These there is no law against these things.

It's holy spirit's role to produce the fruit in me. My rule is not to produce those things. My role is to keep in step with Holy Spirit.

And he enables me to do that. Blows me away it blows me away how he does is, okay? Look at with Paul says, to the church in quarantine Corinthians 5:15 and 10. He says, but by the grace of God, I am what I am. And is Greece to me, was not without effect then he goes on to say, no, I work harder than all of them yet, not I but the grace of God that works. So powerfully in me. Do you get that? By the grease. How many can say by the grace of God? I am who I am. And with about him and his great and his grace was not without effect, right? His grace did something to me, I'm not the same that I was, I am getting transform day-by-day moment-by-moment, I am becoming more and more like Jesus. I hope you are. You are Listen to listen to what he says to the Philippians 1:6. He says, he who began a good work in, you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. What is that? The Holy Spirit. Empowers us to transform and he will finish the good work you started and he'll do it until Jesus comes or you go home. He'll keep making you more and more into the image of the son, Whom The Father loves

It's amazing. It it's it's you have been brought forth for Freedom, only use that freedom to serve others in love.

It's not up for you to follow a list and saying, I got this in this, in this, in this. It's not as easy as I'm well, anyway, let's get to that.

There are. Things that we need to do. But we need to understand, it's not really us who do it. It's the grace of God in us that enables us to do it. So please as I go through this list, don't think I'm ever going to measure up. Yes, you will make sure. Because none of us can measure up and Jesus makes up the difference, right? It's by his grace, we are saved. It is by his grace that we become more and more like him. Got that good.

Introduce you to the, let the Halo. Let the Holy Spirit transform you tool and I'm using every letter in that word transform. I'm going to tell you. You got to trust God, that he cares for you. You need to remember to obey. What he tells you to do. You need to agree to work as unto the Lord. You need to never forget what he's done. You need to stand firm on his promise to you. You need to fill your thoughts with gratitude. You need to only let his boys, hold sway. You need to remember that. He will finish the good work. He started in you and you need to move to the rhythm of his grace. Now, I believe God gave me a real gift this week. I've been working on this message for about a month and I knew he wanted me to use the word transform this week. He showed me that every one of those statements lineup with how the Holy Spirit can grow that fruit in us. I was like, blow it away is like, are you serious? And I'd look up and look up the Greek and find the new versus like Okay, so you might not be in for a treat, but I got blessed with a sermon. It's a good one. Okay, you can get it on the way out. But T, we need to trust that God cares for you 1st Peter. 5:7 says, give all your worries to God because he cares for you. So the result of allowing God's grace to work in you to trust that he cares for you because that's not a place we come to unless we experience more and more of the grace of our father. It's hard for us to trust if we don't trust he's good and he's in a good mood. When he we know he's and he's in a good mood, it becomes so easy for us to try because he's already at work. Showing us that he's good and he's in a good mood. So the result is love. Let me see how I get that. Love in the fruit of the spirit is agape, love. Remember what Agape Love Is. Agape love is the love that the decision. I make that decision to love that way. It's not necessarily an emotional love, it is a decision to love that way. Now, look at what it says in 1st Corinthians. 13 6 & 7 agape love. Does not Delight in evil. But rejoices with the truth, it always protects, always, trusts, always hopes and always perseveres. So, guess what? When you love God, you're going to trust God. But you guys, you trust God, you experience more of him. You're going to love him more. As you love him more, you trust him more. It's him doing the initiated right. He loved us while we were yet, sinners Christ died for us. He took the initiative. We respond to his initiative. And as that our love for God, intensified our trust of him, intensifies.

When you love God you trust God and his perfect love casts out all fear and remember what perfect love is. Love is love. I love perfect. Love is love. I receive from God and pass on to others. So I I can't even love others without the love. God has for me first, I can do so much but I will wear out, I will round out, I will overload, but when his love keeps on telling me, it's easy, it just flows. Yeah, I just let it flow.

We need to trust God. In the nudity of everyday. Not just when we come and sing some worship songs and it feels really good.

Are we sure the feedback and it's anyway, I will not lean forward, I will send back. That looks really strange in the screen. Anyway, we we trust him in the day-to-day of it everyday, right? The more, you know, his love, the more you trust is love the more, we share his love. Remember what Jesus said about the vines in the branches, right? When he was talking to his disciples, he said when you produce fruit, you're going to be proved. So you produce more fruit and that when we produce more fruit, you're going to be pruned. So you produce much fruit It's not a pleasant process. Transformation moves, you from order to disorder to reorder. and when we move as we move, from order to disorder to reorder, It's not the same thing is coming together, Sunday, morning and singing. It's tough. It's rough. It hurts, it's painful. That's what we need to trust God. We need to trust that he is doing the work, he's make doing it if we can. Literally if we can attach honestly, we can honestly say God, I trust you to make me more like Jesus through this.

We can get through anything.

We can't do that without Holy Spirit impressing Upon Us in that moment of Despair and discouragement and anger may be in that moment when Holy Spirit comes and speaks truth and love to us and he's like no I can trust. I can trust God is going to take everything and work together for good. I can trust that he is going to make me more like Jesus through this process. And yeah I let him be God and I just let my job is to love. Him. Love others.

Question you can ask. Holy spirit. Is do I do I know that you care? I do I cast my cares on you. We have time at the end that you can ask any of these questions before you leave here today. But other other times, you can take these notes. You have to change that one. I changed after I printed it became better. When I edited it. Anyway, do I know that you care and I do. I do I cast my cares on you so we need to trust God cares for you. Are, we need to remember to obey what he tells us to do. James 1. 2225 says, don't just listen to God's word do what it says. Otherwise you're only fooling yourself break a listen to the word and don't obey. It's like glancing at the fit, your face in the mirror, you see it yourself and you walk away and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law, that sets you free. And if you do what it says I don't forget what you heard God will bless you for doing it. Now. What do you think is the result of allowing God's grace to work in you so that you can obey what he tells you to do? It's Joy. How do I know that? Because that's what Jesus said, in, John, 15:9 and 11. He said I have loved you, even as the father is love me. Remaining my love when you obey my commands, you remain in my love. Just as I obey the father's Commandments and remain in his love. I've told you this that you will be filled with joy. Yes, your joy will overflow. There's this thing called obedient that when we do joy, joy increases in odds and and it's, it's how many times you can have the story. I could share a lots of stories about this, but in your own life, how many times when you feel that prodding and for Holy Spirit, that is who you uncomfortable. It's like, man, we are in this grocery line here and I don't know. This person in front of me, but I just got to ask how they're doing today. I don't want to do that. It's, it's a socially unacceptable to do something like that. And yet I pushed through that, that that It's got to be God because it myself. I will not do that and and will sometimes I will I kind of get that way, but you actually take that stuff or you, you think about that friend? And you haven't talked for awhile and it's like going to just be silly for me to contact them, but you call them up, and it's exactly what they needed at that moment. And you start thinking mad. That's awesome. I actually heard God and obeyed what he said. And I Joy is just on the other side of obedience. Joy is just if you don't push through an obedience, he won't experience the joy that's there. You been lacking Joy. Again, this is not a checklist, but will you know, when I know when I'm not feeling Joy, when I don't feel Joy, I want to go to God and see if you got, what have you told me that I have forgotten to do, is it something I need to confess? Is it? Someone I need to bless

and holy spirit will show you those things cuz Jesus said he wants you to have that. You lie. He wants you to have that Joy. So, he's going to show you where you need to open. And sometimes it could be years ago, but okay, I'm going back and I'm going to go see if I can make it right. Sometimes it's something that just happened this week.

You're not going to remember. It was a holy spirit, revealing it to you. Your role is just simply be still and know that he is God.

Question you can ask, Holy Spirit in those moments. At is a, have I been stuck? Because I Mr. Even refused to obey something you said. I like that other one. I just said, or do I need to blast somebody? That's really good. I'm going to write that down and change that later.

When I was a young Pastor, I used to start reading the next sermon before like during the sermon and preaching and and I thought it was really cool but one time I think I fell asleep during my preaching and I kind of woke up and I was like standing up at the time anyway, so I don't do that anymore. But that was a good one less or going too fast.

That's a good one, okay.

So we're going to trust God cares for you. You going to remember to obey, what he tells you to do and you're going to agree to work. Then to the Lord. What where do we get this? Colossians 3:23? 224 work willingly at whatever you do as though, you're working for the Lord, rather than people remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as a reward. And at the master, you are serving is priced. Do you know what the fruit is attempts to grow? When you allow God's grace to help you work as unto the Lord? In the most difficult of circumstances? You know what the grease is? That think the fruit that begins to grow in you It's peace.

Peace, grows in US. Listen, this is where Jesus told his disciples as. I'm sure he sent out his 72 and he told them the Harvest is plentiful. But the workers are few. So ask the lord of the Harvest to send out workers in the Harvest field. Go, I'm sending you a like, Lambs Among Wolves. Don't take a purse or sandals or bag or sandals and don't read any one of the road. When you enter the house, say peace. Be upon this house. If someone who promotes pieces, they're your peace will rest on them. If not, I'll return to you. Stay there eating and drinking whatever they give you for the worker, deserves his wages. Don't move around from house to house. Basically, Jesus sent his disciples out and you said, fine people of peace and let them serve you. That's his strategy to win those that are close to us like that. That's Judy are there, right? Can you find a better example is working as unto the Lord.

It's the same principle he has for when he grants you blessing in a workplace so they hire you and I can work there that workplace is a place of Peace because they hired you and they want you there. So what what do you do you? You take whatever they give you and because your workers deserve his wages. And and when you do that the result is really it's trust in God and Trust brings peace I'm trusting God is going to take care of it. I trust him he's going to take care of those that relationship I trust that he's going to take care of that problem. I trust he's going to give me answers to questions and I'm facing right now. When you trust God is going to take care of you. I should tell you the story this week. I probably shouldn't because anyway I'll tell you afterwards when it's not being broadcast on my goodness anyway. He's going to take care and if I trust that and I believe that then I have bestead, everything's going to work out the way he wants it to write. So

Whatever you do when you do it, work, as unto the Lord you trust God is going to take care of whatever you're doing. When your trusting God raised working you? what on Earth is that, as you agree to work together, fruit is Pete's have already set on that question, you can ask, holy spirit, is Do all that I do. I do all that I do. I do like I'm working for Jesus. And do I have the piece that proves it?

When you're, when you have that quiet time with God, you can ask him that.

Bienen, transform helps us to remember, to never forget what he's done. Psalm 103 to the five-step let all that. I am praise the Lord. May I never forget the good things he's done for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases, he redeems my knee from the death and crowns me at 11. Dinner Mercy. He fills my life with good things, my youth is renewed like the eagles.

There's a decision for us to think that way, but honestly, it's holy spirit that puts the unction on that. When we, he just confirms our souls. Be his soul. The Deep calls to deep and he reaffirms that. Yeah. Remember those things? If we don't have Holy Spirits at work in Us in that moment we can look back and see all the terrible things in our life and we see all the hurt and we see all the heartache and we don't see that God has been working all those things together for good. But when we allow Holy Spirit ruler. We've been born by the spirit. We keep in step with the spirit and we look back and we see God's grace. God's grace, God's grace, God's grace. He let me through that. He led me through that. He led me through that. He's, you know, you got to let God, you got to look at your pass through the lens of Holy Spirit. You have to, it doesn't mean it makes it all make sense, it won't. I don't even know when I get to heaven. If some of the things I've had to do in my life will make sense when I'm in heaven, but I'm in there in Before the Throne, it will really won't matter, it won't matter. cuz, From him. All girl is into him over all things, and he's been at work the whole time.

Allowing God's grace to work in you to never forget what it's done for Deuces, the fruit of patience. You want to know how to grow patience. It's not that the terrible things are going to happen to me now. So I learned patience. It's that when I look back on the past and I see God's grace at work, I have the patience to know that he is still at work. In me at what I'm facing right now. It's going to work out. I have to do anything that he doesn't tell me to do. My room, light, a cup my position. I stand firm. And I see the Deliverance of the Lord. What do you want me to do? How do you want me to go? How can I keep in step with you? Holy Spirit. What's happening now? And I can't get there without the help of Holy Spirit. And the help Holy Spirit to look back at my past and see remember that he has always been working all things together for good.

Patience Colossians 3:12 says, since you are God's since God chose you to be the holy people. He loves you. Must clothe yourself with tender-hearted. Mercy kindness, humility. And patience. How do you play with yourself with patience? I just told you all that, but I want to give you this verse Revelation, 11, 12, 12:11 is better. They have defeated him by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die. That's how the Saints overcame the Enemy at the end. That's how the Saints will overcome the Enemy at the end. Testimony is so critical in our journey to become more like Jesus. We need to remember the good things he's done.

Question you can ask, holy spirit is Lord. What do you want me to remember about your goodness to me? He will show you.

The Aston transform helps us to stand opposite. Help us to remember to stand on his promises to you. Psalm 145:13 says, for your kingdom is an everlasting Kingdom, you rule throughout all generations. The Lord is always keeps his promises. He is gracious in all he does.

What is the result of allowing God's grace to work to remember? When you stand on his promise, what are we to remember? Kindness. Kindness, is what grows in us? How do I know that Romans 2424 says? Don't you see how wonderfully kind tolerant and patient? God is with you? Is that mean nothing to you? You can't see his kindness. Can't you see his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin.

All of God's promises are yes and amen in Christ, Jesus. So when we go through the Old Testament, we can read those and we can know that that is a promise to the people of Israel in that context in that time, God felt God, prove himself, faithful. But when Holy Spirit of rooms that verse in us when we read it and we know not only wasn't for those people at that time. He's telling me it's from now. And now, those are the promises we stand on. It is, yes. The original people heard it the original way. But when Holy Spirit a looms, his word in us, when we like sometimes you're just reading and something jumps out at you or whatever it works for you, however God does it for you. The point is, you're in the word. Anyways, you're eating the word, the word speaks to you. All of God's promises are yes and amen in Christ, Jesus.

We do not overcome without remembering the kindness of God towards us and his kindness to us. Helps us, share that. Kindness with others.

Question we can ask. Holy spirit is do I agree with the promises of God in my life.

Some of those are General promises like he is coming again to take me with him.

Some of them are those specific promises that God has a loomed in you. So read get a physical like you can read the Bible on here you can and you can make note and that's really cool if you read it in here and you write down notes, you can give this to your your kids and they can see the promises that God gave you. You can give it to your neighbor. You can give it to a friend. There's something about the physical word. I'm just saying.

So we want to trust God cares for you remember to obey? What he tells you to do at 3 to work as unto the Lord. Never forget what he's done. Stand on his promise and the F remind us to fill our thoughts with gratitude. I'd rather dude is a game-changer Colossians 3:15 says, and Let the Peace of it comes from. God comes from Christ, rule in your hearts for his members of one. Body Oracle to live in peace and be thankful.

So the results of allowing God's grace to work in, you to fill your thoughts with gratitude is the fruit of goodness.

Look what it says in Ephesians 5:6 to 10. Don't don't be fooled by those who try to excuse in for the anger of God, will fall on all, who disobey him, and don't participate in things. Like these people do for, once you were full of Darkness, now you have the light of the light of the Lord. So live is people of the light for when The Light Within You produces only what is good and right and true carefully. Determine what pleases the Lord. What what? Pleases the Lord. It's doing his will. What is some of his Express willing scripture? I'm so glad you asked, if it's 5:18 be thankful in all circumstances. For this is God's will for you who belong to Christ. Jesus. Gratitude, the game changer. If you want to become more and more like Jesus, if you want to grow in in goodness to share with others it, if it's gratitude, it's it's choosing to be grateful.

Fusions for 6, that says, 6 to 7. Basically tells us about anything, but pray about everything and thank him at all things knowing that it's just will for you. Question you can ask, holy spirit is what can I choose to feel grateful for right now?

Sometimes people.

Sometimes it's easy to be grateful for all kinds of things. Holy Spirit comes in and just just start stirring It Up In You. Other times, it's a choice.

Sometimes it's helpful to know, you can choose something small to be grateful for. You can choose something from your past to be grateful for. You can choose something someone's done to be grateful for. It's, it's doesn't have to be much, but it has to be a choice and you do it regularly. Okay.

Second earlier. So to note the old and transform helps us to remember, only let his voice, hold sway, Philippians, 4, 8 and 9. Now they're brothers and sisters. One final thing picture picture thoughts on what is true and honorable rate in pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of phrase, keep putting into practice. All you have learned and receive for me and everything you heard from you doing and the God of Peace will be with you. Result of allowing God's grace to working you, so that you only let his voice hold sway. Is faithfulness.

When we choose not to listen to the voices that come to kill, steal and destroy.

But we're only going to listen to The Voice. That brings us life.

How do we do that? We fill ourselves with his word, we choose to sing his praise. We, we get in the place where we know the difference between voices from our past or voices of the enemy. And instead choose to only listen to the voice of our God.

No. I love this verse. Luke Lucas 17 325. Jesus is as so watch yourselves. If your brothers or sister sin against you rebuke them and if they repent forgive them and if they sin against you seven times a day and 7 times a day, come back to you, saying I Repent, you must forgive them at the apostles replied. I love this. The Rapunzel's up by Lorde increase our faith because I do forgive requires faith. Listen to what Jesus is reply, and I'm reading it from the New Living Translation. Now, the Lord answered if you have, the faith is even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry bush, may you be uprooted and play the sea and it would obey you when a servant comes in from plowing or taking care of the sheep as his master say, come and eat with me. Now, he says preparing my meal and put on your apron, serve me my meal while I eat, then you can eat later. And does the master think the servant for doing what he was told to do? Of course not in the same way. When you obey me without me being me, you should say we are unworthy servants who have simply done our duty.

Did you catch that? Lord, you want me to forgive? You got to increase my faith?

a Jesus says, if you want Faith be faithful,

Be faithful to what is told you to do? Be faithful to him as Master be faithful.

We need to let his voice holds way. We need to go when he says go, when you can stay when he says today, we got to love when he says love, we got to do what he tells us to do it. We we we trust when he says Trust. Keeping in step with the spirit it it's it's a it is just wonderful relationship and he invites us to it's a dance with the divine. It is not just when we gather together Sunday morning, we can feel warm and fuzzy inside. It's that in the day-to-day of everyday, we know he is there, we know he is with us, we know he guides our steps, we make a difference in where we go because we bring him wherever we are. We bring we bring light to the room. We bring hope to the dying. We bring joy to people who've been discouraged. We speak peace, where there's a storm. We do that because since we live by the spirit, we keep in step with Holy Spirit. We can't do that without Holy Spirit but we got to do our part and say no, this is God in Me Christ. In me the hope of glory

Haha. Stop listening. The thief comes only to steal kill and destroy but Jesus comes that we might have life, learn to recognize the difference between the voice of the enemy in the voices of the past that brings death and destruction and theft and learn to listen to Holy Spirit, who brings life.

question you can ask, holy spirit, is do I agree with words of life for words of death,

He'll let you know is you give him space to talk?

And are we've already talked about, but you got to remember the he will finish the good work. He started in you. Philippians 1:6, we read I'm certain that God who began the good work within. You will continue his work until it has finished on the day of Christ Jesus returns.

When we allow God's grace to work in us to remember the God's going to finish the good work, he started. The fruit of gentleness grows in our life.

Because when we trust, God is going to finish the work, he started in me.

We're not stressed. About living up to some imagined. level that we need to live up to

We can be gentle with others who disagree with us. Because if he started going to finish the good work, he started in me. He's going to finish the good work. He started in you.

But I understand it's not me. But Christ in me that works this way. That works through me this way.

I have Grease. For people who are apart from Christ.
