1 John 5:18 “We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.”

1 John 5:6-13 Deity of Christ

The problem - Cerinthus taught that Jesus was just a man. The “Divine Christ” descended on him at the baptism (water) and left at the cross (blood)
A heresy addressed by the early church. The beginning of systematic theology, definition as problems arose.
see Doctrine of the Deity of Christ
John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
John 1:3 “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”
Col 1:16 “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.”
Heb 1:2 “has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;”
Granville Sharp Rule
Titus 2:13 “looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,”
2 Peter 1:1 “Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:”

Certainty of Our Eternal Security

1 John 5:11-13 “And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.
Heb 12:2 “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
2 Cor 1:22 “who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.”
John 10:28 “And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.”
1 Cor 3:15 “If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.”

1 John 5:14-15 Prayer - Certainty of being Heard

A Christian is a prayer warrior. It is our offensive weapon. We have this certainty - we are heard. the will of God is our source of confidence, He wants to fellowship with us in prayer. Answers are always according to His will. Yes, No, and Wait are all responses to us knowing God hears us.

1 John 5:16-17 Sin unto Physical Death

1 John 5:16-17 “If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death.”
Key word here is brother - a fellow christian. A sin that degrades the holy testimony of God. This Particular Sin is never mentioned. It may differ with our visibility and our testimony (witness). So if we can’t know what the particular sin is we should pray for all brothers unless the Holy Spirit directs us otherwise. Pray for brethren in god and bad times, don’t give up.
see Doctrine of Sin to Physical Death
Acts 5 Ananias and Sapphira
1 Cor 3:15 “If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.”
1 Cor 5:5 “deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.”
1 Cor 11:28-31 “But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged.”
James 5:19-20 “Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.”
:17 Sin defined - all unrighteousness

1 John 5:18-21 Epilogue - The Certainties

1Jn 5 18-21We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him. We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one. And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.”
