12 Disciples

Mark 3:17-19NASB95

17 and James, the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James (to them He gave the name Boanerges, which means, “Sons of Thunder”); 18 and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot; 19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Him.

Andrew was along with his brother a disciple of John the Baptist when he first heard of Jesus he then told his brother to come with him because he had found the messiah! Later he went into parts of Asia preaching and teaching. His work was done in parts of Greece, where he would later be martyred. Andrew died on the cross of Xerxes an X shaped cross, In Patrae a Greek colony. Crucifixion was done many different ways in different lands some used nails some used ropes still some did it in even more hideous ways.

Simon Barjona later named Peter or Cephas was the brother of Andrew they were the first 2 disciples. Simon was married.

 Matthew 8:14-15KJV

14 And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother laid, and sick of a fever. 15 And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them.

He and his brother were in a partnership with James and John. Many times when Jesus goes off to be alone he takes with him Peter James and John (wonder abouit Andrew?)

He was one willing to do new things he was the one who asked to walk on the water!

Matthew 14:28-31KJV

28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. 29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. 31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

In acts1.15 before the Pentecost he took the reigns of the church. Speaking about judas and that it was prophesied before that someone should take the place of judas.

The story of his death prophesied by Jesus

John 21:18KJV

18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

Came to be in that he was crucified where is unsure some say near his hometown some historians say most likely Rome he may have requested to be placed upside down but there is no proof either way. But it is without a doubt that he lived for Jesus and died for the Lord.

John the beloved was first boiled in oil which usually put a person to death in a terrible way but this didn’t kill john so he was sent to the isle of Patmos where he died an old man, but not before writing the book of John, 1,2, and 3rd John and Revelation.

James the elder was the brother of John, they were the sons of Zebedee, also known as the sons of thunder they were both fishermen along with Andrew and Peter. James was dragged before Herod and beheaded (cf. Acts 12:2). En route to his execution, James was able to convert and baptize the scribe who had delivered him to Herod; this man, Josias, was also beheaded with James.
