Someone Once Said that we live in a world,

Where we need to be more kind than we have to be.

“Kindness is a language that the blind can see

and the deaf can hear.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson said,

“You cannot do a kindness too soon,

for you never know how soon it will be too late.”

A Japanese Proverb says,

“One kind word can warm three winter months.”

Our family went to Paraguay in South America

this last Christmas to visit our relatives and friends.

We spent a lot of time with our families.

I come from a small family.

       I only have one brother.

He is a little older than I am and he has twin sons

who are 17 years old.

One of the boys is mentally challenged.

And it is really interesting to observe

how he relates and interacts with other people.

He just loved my wife Hedi,

and spent a lot of time with her.

He has a real soft and kind heart

that left a real impression on me.

I read a true-life story from Jim Schibsted,

of Anaheim, California…

A story about kindness and innocence

that reminded me very much of my nepfew

and that warmed my heart.

It’s a story about KINDNESS.

Jim writes,

While my wife Penny and I were walking in the park

the other day,

a ten-year-old boy came racing around a tree,

almost running into us and said,

"Dad, where's Amy?"

Instantly he realized his mistake and said,

"Sir, I'm sorry, I thought you were my Dad,

I made a mistake."

I replied, "That's O.K.  everybody makes mistakes!"

As he began to walk away,

I noticed he had a limp

as well as the features of a child with Down's syndrome.

After having walked about ten yards,

as an afterthought,

he turned around and came back toward us.

"My name is Billy," he said.

"You both were very nice to me,

can I give you a hug?"

After giving each of us a tight hug he said,

"I just wanted you to know that you're my friends

and I am going to be praying for you.

I have to go now and find my sister, Amy.

Goodbye and God Bless You!"

Tears came to our eyes

as we watched Billy,

that child with Down's syndrome,

limp to the playground to play with his little sister.

After Billy went down the slide,

his mother came over to him and gave him a big hug.

It was obvious that he was a special child to her.

Sometimes God uses the Billys of the world

to break down our complex walls

to show us what real kindness is all about.

We must never underestimate

the impact that a hug,

a smile or encouraging word may have

on a person's life.

In Colossians 3 the Apostel Paul writes,

 12Therefore, as God's chosen people,

holy and dearly loved,

clothe yourselves with compassion,

kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

13Bear with each other

and forgive whatever grievances

you may have against one another.

Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

14And over all these virtues put on love,

which binds them all together in perfect unity.

15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts,

since as members of one body you were called to peace.

And be thankful.

16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly

as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom,

and as you sing psalms,

hymns and spiritual songs

with gratitude in your hearts to God.

17And whatever you do,

whether in word or deed,

do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus,

giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Schluss & Benediction

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace

 in believing,

that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Amen
