Intro

David was anointed king at a young age and, despite having the opportunity to take the kingship, waited for God to make him king

Scripture

Psalm 40:1–5 ESV
I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord. Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie! You have multiplied, O Lord my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you! I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told.

What it means to wait

Put your trust in God
When you are waiting in line at Whataburger you trust they are going to give you what you ordered and paid for
When you wait on God, your trust is in Him
He will deliver you
He is your refuge
He is your source of life
It’s not what you want to happen but what God will’s to happen
God is not Santa Claus
How can we not?
Heard my cry
Rescued me from the pit of destruction and the miry bog
Set my feet upon a rock making my steps secure
Put a new song of praise to God in my mouth
You have multiplied, O LORD my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us

Passive waiting - sitting on the coach
Active waiting - preparing for what is to come
