We have been going through the lords prayer. We believe in prayer and we know that we can move mountains with our prayers and I believe that God is calling us to deep times of prayer.
Jesus gives us this amazing outline for prayer. And as a recap of where we are at
When we pray we know that we are to go into our prayer closet, our secret place and meet with Him.
When we approach God we don’t have to be timid. We don’t have to worry if He is in a good mood. If He wants good things for us, but it’s not always what we think is best. We know this because he is a good Father.
We see that we are to keep God’s name Holy and so we went through some of the different names of God. All throughout the bible God’s people encountered God and his different attributes. If we need peace we can pray to Jehovah Shalom (The Lord Is Peace). If we need provision we can pray to Jehovah Jireh (The Lord Will Provide). If we need healing we can pray to Jehovah Rapha (The Lord That Heals). If we are feeling beat up by the enemy because of poor dicisions we can pray to Jehovah Tsidkenu (The Lord Our Righteousness).
Last week we talked about the kingdom. The bible says that we are to pray your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. We see in Luke 17 that the Kingdom of Heaven is actually within each of us. We talked about what it would look like if the kingdom within us was a greater reality then the one we see in the physical.
This week I want to briefly talk about vs 11 in our text.
Give us this day our daily bread,
It’s interesting that Jesus tells us to pray for daily bread. Not for tomorrows bread, not to eat leftovers from yesterday but daily bread. Fresh bread. If there is a smell in heaven it mighty be fresh bread. I’ve never met someone that doesn’t like the smell of fresh bread.

We see that in Exodus 16 that when the children of Israel were in the wilderness that God provided manna from heaven for them to eat. It was a supernatural bread that sustained them. But there were rules, you could gather as much as you wanted but it was only for that day unless it was the day before the sabbath. If you gathered extra it would rot. The bread was a sign of nourishment but also of provision. I believe that God was teaching the israelites to trust in God.
Can you imagine the trust it would take for the children of Israel.
Do we have the same level of trust?
Tell the story of talking with my team about making money and asking them how much is enough?
11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: 12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Later on in Chapter 6 Jesus talks about worrying about tomorrow.
I believe that we have accepted worry as ok in our walk with Jesus. Can we worry and trust at the same time?
Bread also represents spiritual nourishment.
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.
Jesus is the only one that brings true satisfaction.
I was talking with a friend about how humans are consumers. We are all consuming things but I am noticing more and more that we may not be consuming the right things.
The question I want to ask you this morning is what are you feasting on and what is sustaining you?
