Authentic Manhood
Genesis 1-3 , Romans 5:12-21; Icor.15.43-49
Authentic Manhood.” so based off the title you may know by that we are talking about father’s and I want to say Happy Father’s day to all the men. In light of the massive confusion and misperception—not only in our culture, but also in the church—regarding what it means to be a man, I believe it is hugely important for us to pause our series of Lord change our attitude before it’s too late. Just like it was extremely valuable for us to pause on Mother’s Day when we considered a Maternal Love.
So let’s take a moment and consider the effect that the cross has on the way we understand manhood, and its power towards all future generations. I want to honor brothers, the men in this room, on this day, but I also want to challenge you. Studying for today has been challenging for me. I have walked through this sermon with my wife, and I have tried, with her, to look honestly at my life. I have seen many areas where I need to grow as a man. I am praying that in the next few moments, God will enlighten every man this sanctuary to see just how skewed our understanding of manhood is in our culture and to stop conforming to that culture, but better yet let us rise up and by the grace of God be the men (single men, husbands, fathers) that God has created and called us to be.
I want to speak clearly, even sternly at points, because I am convinced that this is a huge need in our culture our churches, in our families and future families represented all across the room. We are seeing the repercussions in our churches and it should open our eyes and help us to learn what it takes to do what the Lord has placed in us here on this earth to do. Not only that, but to do it His way and not my way, So I want to speak specifically to men today, but in a way that I hope will encourage our women to know how to pray for men—married women, to know how to pray for your husbands; children, to know how to pray for your dads; single women, to know what to look for in a man when it comes to marriage; and for you as women to know how God has designed you in a way that complements men for your good and for God’s glory. God’s Design for Men …
The New King James Version (Chapter 15)
The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit
We reference a scripture and text in the book of 1 Cor.15:45. it gives us several different perspectives, and we will close with this passage in mind. But for now, I want you to look at this text as two bookends or a timeline that has beginning and an ending. Just like any good book in order to appreciate who we are and where we are going. We need to first know how it all began. Just like I shared with you about the book we are reading in our series. The book will have more value and perspective if you begin with the introduction. so we see the Adam from Genesis 2:7 As the first Adam and 1 Corinthians 15:45 as the last Adam. Men we all have a starting point .
Genesis 2:7 (NKJV)
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
But as Jamil always says I say, Chapter 3 happened in Genesis.
The New King James Version (Chapter 3)
9 Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”10 So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”11 And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”12 Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”13 And the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”14 So the LORD God said to the serpent:
Point 1- know your role(purpose)
But guess who kept quiet the whole time God was issuing out punishments, the Serpent? He doesn't say one word. And you know why? He accomplished what he came to do: he fulfilled his purpose and played his role. He didn’t blame no one. He was possibly sitting back thinking, “How are you going to get them out of this one!” What was the man’s role/purpose (look back through Genesis). Before and after the curse.
Abraham knew his role, Isaac knew his role and Jacob knew his role. and becuase of their role and leadership all nation will be blessed
Point - Know your purpose and stay in your Role.
acts.10.1-2
Acts 10:1–2 NKJV
There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment, a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always.
Point 2- know who you walk with
And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah: And Enoch walked  with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and  daughters: And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:  And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him. (Genesis 5:21-24  AV)
Look what God says to Solomon about his father David.
Let's go back to the basics. Men are designed to be good and loving leaders especially in their own homes. We accomplish this by walking with God. What does walking with God look like? See scriptures of men walking with God. Eph 4:1
Eph. 4.1
Ephesians 4:1 (NKJV)
I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called,
In scripture walking with God is a figure of speech meaning the manner of life,  or how we conduct ourselves. The passage quoted above means then: let our ways  of life match up to what we claim to be; our behaviour gives witness to our  profession. The Bible has much to say about walking with God.
2 John 4 NKJV
I rejoiced greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth, as we received a commandment from the Father.
Point 3- know what type of legacy you will leave
Abraham, Issac and Jacob when they passed on their blessing to not get their wife from the Canaanite ( look up verses). My first year and half I went to Oklahoma Christian and we where required to attend chapel 5 days a week. You could miss a few days each semester, but if you missed too many day you had to go to the dean’s office listen to the recording and write a summary of the service. I remember several times the prayer was this you meet your future husband or wife at OC.
Gen.24:4 In the previous verse, Abraham asked his most trusted servant to swear an oath. This promise was to not allow his son Isaac to take a wife from among the local, Canaanite women. Apparently afraid that he might die before Isaac could be married, Abraham further asks his servant to swear to find a wife for Isaac among the women of Abraham's old homeland and extended family. Why is Abraham so urgent about this request? He is aware of God's promise to make from him a great people who will belong to the Lord. This promise from God was also to give Abraham's offspring the land of Canaan, as their own possession. He apparently does not want Isaac to marry a Canaanite woman and to begin to assimilate into the Canaanite people as one of them. He is concerned, even in this first generation, that God's people maintain a separate and distinct identity from the people of the land of Canaan. Later, the Israelites will be officially commanded by God not to intermarry with the people of the land of Canaan (Deuteronomy 7:1–4). Then, as now, the issue has nothing to do with race. Rather, the concern is over faith—avoiding the particularly wicked practices of the Canaanite people.
Genesis 3:12 Women whom YOU gave - Adam tries to pass responsibility to his wife (and perhaps even God)
1 Kings 9:4–5 (NKJV)
Now if you walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and My judgments, then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I promised David your father, saying, ‘You shall not fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.’
Faithlife Study Bible (Chapter 9)
9:4 walk before The Hebrew phrase used here, halakh liphney, means “to serve” and always appears in reference to kings serving God (compare 8:23, 25; 2 Kgs 20:3).as your father David walked David’s obedience to Yahweh serves as the standard that all Israelite kings should emulate.in integrity of heart and in uprightness Used to describe David (Psa 78:72; compare Job 1:1, 8).
Ezra 2:58–62 NKJV
All the Nethinim and the children of Solomon’s servants were three hundred and ninety-two. And these were the ones who came up from Tel Melah, Tel Harsha, Cherub, Addan, and Immer; but they could not identify their father’s house or their genealogy, whether they were of Israel: the sons of Delaiah, the sons of Tobiah, and the sons of Nekoda, six hundred and fifty-two; and of the sons of the priests: the sons of Habaiah, the sons of Koz, and the sons of Barzillai, who took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called by their name. These sought their listing among those who were registered by genealogy, but they were not found; therefore they were excluded from the priesthood as defiled.
Your lineage and legacy is important. Know who you are so you can leave a Godly Legacy. Something for your children to follow and look up to. Note when coming back after the exile and rebuilding their land and the temple. Some of the Levites did not have their papers to prove they were Levites, so therefore, they couldn’t serve in the temple.
The world would have us believe that a man is one who finishes school, then puts his head down with his nose to the Grindstone, and works hard, for the rest of his life in order to achieve some level of monetary success. Along the way, we acquire a wife and children, a home, fancy cars, clothes, and a plethora of toys in order to demonstrate manly success to the world. My work defines who we are, and becomes a badge of honor in the world’s eyes.
Television gives us an idea of what we want to be as dads, what our wife’s thinks a good husband should look like, and our children and idea for father of the year.
Mike Brady’s from the Brady Bunch, Julius Rock ( Everybody hates Chris), Cliff Huxtable ( Cosby Show), Andre Johnson ( Blackish), Phillip Banks ( Fresh Prince of Bel Air)
Julius is the caring, devoted, easygoing, levelheaded, but very worrywart, cowardly, frugal, penurious, incompetent, and cheap father a 46 year old. Julius has two jobs as a newspaper delivery man and a security guard. As a result of being extra worried, mostly over spending too much money,
As we look in I Corinthians 15:45-49, we see this text shows us the natural vs. the spiritual man the contrast is not between a material body and an immaterial body, but between a body subject to death and a body that is immortal. The Greek term translated spirit here refers to a body directed by the spirit, as opposed to one dominated by the flesh. the contrast is the first man shows the sinful nature that every person is born into, versus the new spiritual nature that comes through Christ. let me provide you and example of what Authentic Man looks like when he has the spiritual nature of Christ.
You and I are the leaders of our families. You might be reluctant to assume that role. You might even deny that it falls to you. Nonetheless, we are the leaders of our families, de facto leaders, whether you choose to believe it or not. Leaders are always the highest priority targets in any war. The enemy knows that if he can kill the commander, the troops will be easier to defeat.
In the movie, it’s a wonderful life a classic Christmas carol, actor Jimmy Stewart plays, George Bailey, a man trapped in a small town of Bedford Falls. He is dissatisfied with his life because he is unable to fulfill his dreams. He is stuck because he is compelled to do the right thing by taking over his family's savings and loan business. George continually sacrifices his dreams for the benefit of others. Finally, doing a crisis, he wishes he had never been born, and his guardian angel reluctantly grants his wish. George revisits the town and the people he has known his whole life, he gradually realizes the impact he has made. With no one to loan money for middle-class family homes, the once Pleasant town of Bedford Falls has been transformed into Pottersville, a modern-day, Sodom and Gomorrah. Without George there to save his brother Harry from death doing childhood. Harry never grew up to save the lives of hundreds of soldiers on a troops transport during World War II. George's wife is an old maid instead of the vibrant, beautiful mother and wife she is under his leadership. George, friends, relatives, and customers are all worse off, some are even insane or, in prison for never having had his influence in their lives. One man can make a difference in the world. Jesus
A man is created for challenges. He is equipped to overcome, to run the gauntlet, to stand firm as well – Anchor corner post, men are the benchmark in life, society, and family. It is part of the masculine responsibility to demonstrate, strength and stability, to protect and provide for those within their sphere of influence. This is the hallmark of manhood, by Preston, Gilliam,
Men Embrace what God has made you to be. in the words of a army slogan Be all you can be, make a spiritual difference because “one man can change the world”
What does your Manhood say about you?
1 Corinthians 15:45 NKJV
And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
