Ephesians 3:4–6 ESV
When you read this, you can perceive my insight into the mystery of Christ, which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit. This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.
Ephesians 3:10–12 ESV
so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. This was according to the eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in him.
Mystery of Christ
is now made known
Revealed by the Holy Spirit
Gentiles made heirs and same body of Christ Jesus
There is a purpose for the church and its becoming apparent in this end time
The church must reveal the manifold wisdom of God (this is why we cannot just sit idle)
Make it known to the whole of creation as declared in the great commission but extends to the heavenly spaces
rulers and authorities in the heavenly spaces
Given confidence through faith in Christ Jesus
The Church in the Last Days 2 part sermon this one starts
Defining the Church
Functions of the Church
Peril for the Church in the End times

The church is a people set apart to reveal the mysteries hidden since the beginning of time to bear witness of Christ Jesus

Defining the Church

Church is a conjugated word
eck= from or out of something
kaleo= called by name or summoned
Secular dictionaries in the english state its the building but it denies one of the most foundational facets of what this term actually defines
Best defined by the greek term ecclesia
regular summoning and gathering
under full legal authority
of the people called or summoned to the gathering
this the gathering of the elect; set apart, called out of; now destined
It is not building as it matters less where, but lets dispel the atrocious statement I am the church… it is the continuous regular gathering of the people who are now known by name to the Lord.
Abraham as an example… called out of the land of his parents (They had 500 gods)

Distinct from this world

John 17:14 ESV
I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
We are given His word…
changes us
allows us to know His nature
Made into the nature of Christ… we dont belong so we are hated
Israel Parallel
Called out of Egypt
Ex 7:16 “let my people go so they can worship me…in the dessert”
Egypt the world; the Promised Land the Kingdom; The dessert a place where we are taught to depend on the Lord
Israel was not of Egypt but resided in Egypt; they were not of the Dessert but were processed in the Dessert;
Just as they were being primed for the promised land so we are nor being prepared… we are being taught to wholly depend on the Lord
John 17:15 ESV
I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one.
Israel had to go through he dessert before entering the promised land
the church must do the same
we are about to cross the Jordan river
Israel wanted to go back to egypt… careful to not get trapped by egypt
We will be kept in this time

Called His Own

Acts 20:28 ESV
Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.
church of God is bough with His blood
Church of God defined as the flock or congregation

Marked by the receiving of the Word and infilling of the Holy Spirit

Acts 10:44–45 ESV
While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles.
Israel had the elemental spirits as guardians
The church is marked by receiving the word and the infilling of the Holy Spirit
The origin of the church then is found Acts 2:1-3 this was the birth of the church of Christ;
they were baptised into the body of Christ through the work of the Holy Spirit

The Church Is the Body of Christ

1 Corinthians 12:12–13 ESV
For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.
1 body, 1 spirit, 1 church=the body of Christ
None is indispensable, non have it all
In essentials unit, non-essentials liberty, all things charity
we need each other
Internal in the church we cannot say I have no need of you; church to church we cannot say I have no need of you
v.26 on suffers we all suffer, one is honored we should rejoice
No better way to summarize it than
1 Corinthians 12:27 ESV
Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.
one person is not the church, the church is the body legal gathering of the members in Christ
I think it best to bring this to a surface here and hold the remainder or another day
I believe that as spoken about in the Matt 24 we are seeing many whose love has become cold… there is an assault on the church one which is attacking our identity
The trials and tribulations which we have endured to date are an inkling of what is to come, but when we turn to look at the church we no longer know what our identity is...
I do not want you to be misinformed I want you to process this information and to know who you are in Christ…Today we have too many believers running around reciting a partial truth and satiating their absence in the holy legal gathering of believers and in so doing violating a basic premise found in scripture to not forsake the gathering of the saints
It will be for us to now understand we are not Israel though we have many similarities, the church is not an individual though its comprised of individuals as we profess what we see in scripture
1 Peter 2:9–10 ESV
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
This the church- a people that once had no place in Him, we had no belonging, today we are a people called out of this world by name
to be a chosen race
to be a royal priesthood
to be a holy nation
and we have been given an assignment… church you are not just passers by or idle citizens in the Kingdom
