Says all praise to God, the father of our Lord, Jesus Christ who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the Heavenly Realms because we are united with Christ even before he made the world. God loved us and chose does in Christ beholding without fault. In his eyes, God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family, by bringing us to himself through Christ Jesus. This is what he wanted to do. It gave him great pleasure, so we praise God, for the Glorious Grace that he's poured out on those of us who belong to his, your son. He is so rich and kindness and Grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his son and forgive our sins. He has showered his kindness on his along with all wisdom and understanding God has not revealed to us. His mysterious will regarding Christ, which is the, which is his own good plan. And this is the plan at the right time, he will bring everything. Under the authority of Christ, everything in heaven, and on Earth, for their more because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God. He chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out. According to his plan. God's purpose was that we Jews who were the first to trust in Christ would bring praise and glory to God. And now, you Gentiles have also heard the truth. The good news is it, God saved you and when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit who he promised long ago, the spirit is God's guarantee that he will give us the inheritance. He promised if he purchased us to be his own people, he did this so that we would praise and glorify him. Ever since I heard of your strong, faith in the Lord Jesus in your love for God's people. Everywhere I have not stopped giving, thanks thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly asking God. The glory is father of our Lord. Jesus Christ to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might know in your grow, in your knowledge of God. Sophia Cai apocalypsis. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he is given to those. He called his holy people who are as rich and glorious inheritance. I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God's power for us who believe him. This is the same Mighty power that raised Christ, Jesus from the dead and seated him in the place in their honor of God's right hand in the Heavenly Realms. Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anyting else. Not only in this world but also in the world to come God has put all things under the Authority of Christ and his meet him. The head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is his body and is made full and complete by Christ. Who fulfills everything everywhere with himself. Can we pray?

Lord we do pray, I thank you, first of all, we thank you, God, that you have named us and called us your own. We thank you, Lord. That you have placed us. Each of us just as you want us to be. We thank you that you You give us the the faith to respond to you, and you give us the grace to empower us to accomplish every good work, prompted by our faith. So Lord today I pray that there would be at that Spirit of wisdom and Revelation would be upon us and Lord you would speak so much more then I can speak today. You would encourage so much more than I could do on my own. And I pray that. Lord, have your way in this place in your name. Amen.

Just read Ephesians 1:3 that we have been blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ. I want to pair those down to look at three specifically here today. The gifts from the spirit that we find it first Corinthians 12 and 14 what Christ is given the church which is in the Fusions for 11 to 16 and what God the gifts that God has given and that's in Romans 6:13. now, these lists there are some duplicates, but none of the lists are the same and we can understand this in two different ways and I don't think I understand him and both ways, okay. I don't think they're opposed in any way. The first way we can understand it because the lists are not the same. We can understand that God is God and he can give whatever gift he wants to give whenever he wants to give it. However, he wants to give it, we let God be God. And that's a great place to be. Secondly.

I think he's getting me to understand that it is the gifts. Holy spirit, gives its what Christ gave the church. And it's what the father gives us. And this is what I'm trying to. I'm never heard anyone explain it this way and I want to see if it makes any difference in the way it. We understand God in the way we live our lives. So,

let's explore that today. The gifts of the Spirit Corinthians 1st, Corinthians 12 and 14. Pastor John spoke on this. Just a few weeks ago, the gifts the word for gifts there is charismatic. Charisma. Charismatic, charismatic charismatic charisma. Annabelle. Come in for tonight, later on here. We can understand these gifts in three categories. The gift of knowledge would be the wisdom, knowledge, and distinguishing of spirits. That gives a speech would be tons of different vision and prophecy that gives a power our faith and healing and miracles. Now, all of these gifts are given by The Same Spirit. He gives them out just as he wants. But remember we are told four different places in these things too. Eagerly desire, the greater gifts in context, the greatest gift in what Paul was talking about for the church when they meet the greatest gift with prophecy. So eagerly desire prophecy for us when we gather that is the gift. We need the gift we need. When we're alone praying to God is probably the gift of tongues because that's the only gift that builds ourselves up the gift we need. When we're at the in the workplace or in our neighborhood it could be, whatever comes up, it could be healing, it could be faith. It could be whatever. Just eagerly Fire. The gift. God has for you in that moment.

Now, the interesting thing is, we can be trained to move these gifts more naturally.

We can learn more and get knowledge but God can give his knowledge beyond the knowledge we have right. Like that's that's what we were going for. We can get wisdom, we can learn to apply that knowledge. We can train ourselves to do that, but when Holy Spirit doesn't, it's so much better distinguish between Spirits. That's the sermon we can learn, but yo, it's also good when you just know right here.

I'll tell you that story. We can I tell that story?

I don't know. I believe this was Holy Spirit. But I do have some experience in this. I had a neighbor for probably about 10 years and he was really friendly when he was smoking pot. He got really troubled when he used meth and

add a lot of contact with him over those 10 months couple weeks ago, I was called into a company where we serve and this gentleman was just beside himself because his wife was so mean to him and all this stuff and each are told me, that's what's going on and it's a cultural thing. So, whatever, I was with him for about five minutes before, something triggered in me and I was that hey so I was able to lead them through and so yeah, it's math. When was your last time you took it all this morning? Okay, let's start dealing with that. I I don't believe that is just my experience. Like I had the experience, so I could tell where the conversation was going, but I do believe it's holy spirit. That weeks that in a

Gift of tongues. We it's a psychological problem, more than a spiritual problem, if you'd seek the gift of tongues and don't speak in tongues, the psychological problem, most people have is that we believe holy spirit is going to

basically possess us and move our mouths. And that's because you will always hear stories of people who say, I started speaking in tongues, for 3 days and I can't stop. Okay, that's not the standard thing that happens. I've been stuck in a chair for hours and not been able to move. That's not something. I train people to do, got to do that. Just let him do that. But for tongues if we, if we haven't spoken them, the psychological problem is we think that God is going to force far size but that if we understand we have to move our lips and we start by praising God, and we're in his present, we start by praising God. And then, we just start saying any words that come into our, our mind, if we're connected with God, and then the gift gets activated. Way easier. It's it's anyway.

Interpretation we can give guidelines on how to interpret things prophecy. We can train you, how to prophesy and that's all good faith. Have to say about faith. Healing. Yeah, we can show you how to heal Miracles II.

Hey, I am taking a course on it. That's why it's teachable. I just haven't got there yet, but the point is, We can we can develop all of these gifts that God gives us and we can move in any gift that we need in the moment. Some of us will be more gifted in some of these gifts. That's why God places those just as he wants us and wants us to be right? How do you act? If I the gifts of the Spirit remember to eat okay e a t e. You eagerly desire. We see this in the different four times and 1st Corinthians 12 and 14. Holy Spirit response to the desires. He will give you the desires of your heart, why? Because he gives you the desires of your heart gives you those desires. He's going to give you those desires. It's just this wonderful thing about God. The question we can ask is MI eagerly desire. The greater gift? Do I even think about it or do I just go through my life trying to do the best I can without involving God in the process? Kiwi, eagerly desire, a wee. It's activated by faith. Faith is understanding what the word of God says in applying it to our lives in the spirit which God said it. It's also faith is my natural response to his revelation. So when I can understand that God gives these gifts to build up the church and do encourage the people, I come in contact with. I can, if I don't believe that I'm never going to step out in faith. I am never going to act all these gifts, every single one of them, they're activated by faith. Every single one of them. Even faith. Faith is activated by faith. Don't let that hurt your bring too much, but if you have them or faith, you have and then so eagerly desire activate by faith and then trained to follow. Holy Spirit. That's sick. First Thessalonians and 1st Corinthians. We experiment in the church. This is a safe place for you to experiment in the gifts of the holy spirit. Prophecy is great cuz it builds us up and we give space for that and we can learn like it's really cool when you're having Coffee with a stranger and you're able to say, well, your sister's going to be okay. Is that a bus to say if the Lord You're sure sister shall survive and prosper. Like you just learn to say it in a way that doesn't free people outside the church, right? But you use those gifts outside and those gifts will draw people to him. They ask what the reason for your hope and you learn to say it with gentleness and respect.

Question, you can ask ourselves if we're willing to risk using the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Cuz you got those gifts, use them. I just gave you a 5 minute run through of a training. I buy pot in churches over several several sessions. So there's more to say but I'm not going to say it today, move on to the Ephesians 4 and what what the sun gave the church in the the Greek. There is no use of the word of got the gift. There's no gift in the Greek. It says, he gave an English. We throw the word gift in there. Because when you give something it's a gift, right? And like Ephesians 4:11, the New Living Translation translated this way. It says, these are the gifts. The words not there, that Christ gave the church. This is it literally it's this is what Christ gave. The Church of the Apostles, the prophets, the Evangelist of Pastors in the teachers. Three things to recognize in these gifts. These gifts are to the church. Not necessarily positions in the church. What. Okay? White ruffle some feathers here number to. They only have authority in relationship. What do I mean? A profit only has Authority, if I consider him a profit, an apostle only has authority over me. If I consider him an apostle, a pastor only has authority over me if I consider you in my pasture, right? It makes sense.

Anyway, and free will get into it three. These gifts are not ours to self-identify. It's not for us to choose to be a pastor. It's we get a call, it's not only a call. It's confirmed by the people around us. and we don't mess it up because anyway, We we don't wake up and decide that we're an apostle or Prophet or a pastor or an evangelist or Shepherd. That's actually the word their Shepherd, or teacher God calls you and others confirm you. That's all how these gifts need to operate. let me tell you about my own experience, so,

I wish I did. I got lots of time.

In the year between my first year university and my second year university, I my plan was to work that whole summer and kind of skipped out of University and go to Bible school because they had this new HMS program where you go on a missions trip for half the year. It's like sure I'd love to do that.

Then we were playing our softball team at work. Was, was playing the nurses? And I took a swing and I went all around my niece stayed in the same place that might be just popped out, but if you're ever going to be hurt the baseball fields, make sure there's no curses around cuz they were great. And so I was, I was in a brace for all of Summer and I couldn't I couldn't work. So most of that summer. I spent fishing by the On the river and it was awesome. But I also decided, hey, I can go be a counselor summer camp again because I've done it for five years and I'll just go do it again. Cuz, Hey, how much do I have to keep up with 12? 12 year olds for a week like I can hobble around to do that. Right? First mistake, I'll tell you the whole story, they knew me and they knew that I could work with kids. So they gave me 12, 12 year olds, who were all pastors kids and deacons kids. And some of them have police records, okay? Like it was him and I probably left it in the whole week and then then we have during the the did the chapel times we're talking about healing and I honestly went up front to get pray for healing just to show these brats that I believed in healing, not to really get anything from guy and I went up there and the lady prayed for me and then stopped and said God's got something to tell you. And I heard his Audible Voice. Say you're to be a pastor. and it wrecked me like, The camp director came up about two hours later. Where is your kids?

And I didn't know much at that time. I knew to be a pastor meant that I probably needed to. Go to Bible school to become a pastor. But I didn't have any piece about doing that, the only door that was open to me because I could get student loans was University. So, I went back to University and finish up that degree.

And when I was a young Pastor, 25 years ago, I was told that story to other pastors and they would think they would all be envious of my call. Like, if only God would speak to me audibly, then I would be sure. This is what I'm supposed to do. But 25 years later, I realized why God had to speak to me audibly, was because he was taking me a completely different place in my life. It was easy to think of yourself as a pastor when you're not your main source of income and that's how your support it. Well then I can be a pastor But what I found when I was outside the church is that I'm still a pastor whatever I do. It's how I think it's how I roll is how I encourage but I can't not be a pastor. You see? It's a gift, not a position. It's a gift to the church, not a position in the church. And by the way, the word here is Shepherd, I love that word. It is Shepherd. Anyway. We'll get on it. We're going to quickly fly through these five different different things. Look at them quickly Apostles. Apostille, Los literally Jesus, use the word that was used for Roman generals who went into an area to make it Roman. They came in after the battle to Roma five, an area to get rid of all the religions, except the religions Rome serve to get rid of all of the the like the standard measurements creat mile lines, do the thing, make it room Wherever You Are. That's the word apostle. Jesus called his 12 out of the out of the crowd, he took the 70 of the 70, hit the 12, he called the 12 apostles. Literally telling them they needed to change the culture. That's how they would have understood that. These people are fathers and mothers. They want their ceiling to be their children's floor. They are art, aren't aren't content unless the culture around them changes. Now.

Some of you know most of your related to him. Wait legore is who I would call an apostle. White liquor I've known for 25 years. I've seen him go into the bush and take this bush and turn it into something amazing. And I've heard the stories of changed lives over those years and coming forth now, and I know he went in there and he changed the culture, he taught people how to grow food. He taught people how to do that, like, whatever he can get into the people would be if you brought people in to teach them to do those things. I've had this conversation with white, he doesn't want to be called an apostle, because of everyone who self-identifies as a possible around him, and then he doesn't want to be in that boat. But if you want to know what an apostle looks like, look at the weight look or go in and see what he's doing in Mozambique, it's incredible. See Apostles, change the culture to Kingdom culture. That's the role of an apostle. Prophets prophetess, they are the interpreters in oracle's and just, as a side note, the word prophet in the Old Testament in the Hebrew, scriptures is in the ball. Now, that might not mean anything to you, but Nepal is a same word for crazy from Context. I was translating the part where Jake, who drove like a prophet. And I'm like, what does that mean? And my, my profit explain to me know what's the other meaning for that were do, he drove like a crazy man? Okay, I get that. Okay, so that makes more sense.

Profits. Are they do two things? What it's worth telling. Fourth filling. It was what we see in the 1st Corinthians 14:3 for its for the edification exhortation and comfort. We're calling into being that which is not. We, we speak these things into being. That's the same thing that God does. We agree with God, like, prophets know the words of God and the Claire, the words of God, that's what profits do. They know God will and they declare God's will. That's the role of a prophet. Evangelist event, Evangelist days there. Bringer of Good Tidings with signs and wonders. Okay, this is so cool. The only person were told in scripture who had the title of Vangelis was Philip. Paul told Timothy to do the work of an evangelist but he never called him an evangelist. Phillips life. He was part of the seven. He was he was when the church was founded. The the, the, the, the 12:11, they brought one more into the twelve were too busy, praying and hearing what God wants to do so so they thought it wise to call Seven deacons. They made them deacons. And they were to take care of the day-to-day of every day because they had they ate their meals together. They had to make sure that the, that the widows were taken care of they needed to do these things. Philip was one of those deacons. He's the only only one ever calls an evangelist.

He went to Samaria in at 8 and he proclaimed the Messiah to the Samaritans, he perform Miracles, including casting out demons hearing healing paralytics, and he baptized in water in the name of Jesus. So so very interesting. The spirit didn't come on the Samaritans until Peter, and John came and laid hands on them, who are they? They were the apostles, the apostles came and laid hands and then Holy Spirit came on them. Why is that important? Holy Spirit changes culture and makes it Kingdom culture.

It's amazing. The thing that we we've called evangelists, or people who come in and sing, a good song and can get people saved, well, guess what? If there's no signs and wonders.

I don't, I don't know. Anyway,

Yeah, if Angeles prepare the way for salvation with signs and wonders. So when the apostles came and laid hands on on the people in the Holy Spirit came on them, they confirmed. What are Philip was saying? They confirm that he was sent from Christ. Apostles are fathers and mothers they confirm the call on people's lives. Okay, next Shepherd, this word. When I saw it in Greek, actually learned this way to, I've only taken koine Greek there. I haven't taken koine. Greek. I've taken a decree, which is older version of Greek, but I learned this word, an addict, it. It's, it's Shepherd. It's always been Shepherd. It's always translated Shepherd in the Bible, except this one place. And in this one place, we decide to use the the Greek word change to a Latin word in that Latin word was close enough to the English word Pastor. So that's what we got Pastor from but the word is actually Shepherd. Jesus use the same word in Matthew 9:36. When he saw the crowds he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless like a sheep without a Shepherd will be. I

I got to say, I am fully convinced the world needed them or pastors to rise up. And not be that in the Pulpit, right? Like understand the pastures role is to encourage they don't mind the mock in the mire. They're there with the Sheep, they look, but they walk as fast as the slowest it. Make sure the old ones come along with the young ones and make sure everyone gets along. We need this everywhere. We need pastors the rise up in the work place. We need pastors to rise up in, in homes. We need pastors all over the place, and it doesn't mean that we're paid to be upfront and and talk to people. Anyway, this is important, but it's anyway. Yeah, yeah, shepherds, nurture and protect. We need people to nurture and protect

Teacher the DACA loss.

Teachers, James tells his dear brothers and sisters, not many of you should be teachers in the church. For those who teach will be judged more strictly. Oh yes, I can, imagine the comments already on line, anyway, you should see the comments we're getting. It's, it's, it's anyway,

Two things teachers need to do, we've had people graduate. We can train teachers to be teachers and we have people try to eat this year or raw. Congrat Liza is awesome teachers in the but whatever, if you're trained to be a teacher or your lifted up by the by Holy Spirit to be a teacher, Jesus gives you as a gift to the church. To be a teacher, you need to do two things. You need to hear it, you need to understand, and you need to be able to explain Those are two things that a teacher do does understand. And explain. So Apostles change the culture of an area to Kingdom culture prophets know, God's Will and declare God's will evangelist. Prepare the way for salvation with signs and wonders Shepherds nurture and protect and teachers, understand and explain. Now, if we can have positions for people in this in any church, I think every church needs to have this by fold Ministry. Be a part of it. Right. I don't know how it's going to always work, so I think it's going to work differently in every place. Has that the church that we were part of a New Zealand. They brought somebody in and these tools us that they thought he was a prophet because he prophesied this before, and this is what's happened. Now, we're bringing human again to make sure we are lined with what God has for us in the future. So they brought him in. He said, what, he thought, God was saying, and then they brought us all together to say. Okay, let's pray through these points and see what God. Would have us do. It was incredible. It was like having a prophet in our midst and we were respecting them, and honoring them and then doing something about what they said. I mean, either, that's where the church needs to go to. We need to have people who are fathers and mothers, not necessarily part of this congregation, but that we know and we can trust as Apostles and they can come, and they can encourage people who get to that anyway. How do you discern if you should pursue a possible call? Great question. So, glad you asked, I've been telling people this for years.

Remember the word elk? Do you have the ilk for it? Okay? Interest starts with your interest. Do you think you might be called to be a gift to the church? Do you think you might be an Apostle? Prophet, Shepherd, teacher evangelist? Then you got to ask yourself? Do I have the heart? And I can, I learn the skills that I need for that.

one of the things I do in my my, my other job is like, I

How much can I explain? We have pure teams that go into different companies that care about their employees mental health. And so, we need people who can are mature, Christians, who love relating to people with no faith or different face or really, really warped faith. And 3, if you, if they've got any kind of we call it therapeutic intervention experience, have you help someone who's been on drugs? Have you help someone who's who's any, you know, committing suicide or wants to commit suicide? Those are those are the people we want to get. And I had was talking to this one pastor, and when I get excited cuz I just tell our stories and I get excited telling our stories and it's near the end of our conversation. He says, you just must be exhausted. And I'm like, do I look tired? I don't feel tired. I'm sorry. Did I yawn? And he's like, no, I don't know. But you have to meet new people all the time.

Yeah, we do. And guess what? I never called a I get in your interview because that's not the Pastor can be in Traverse. That's not a problem. The position of Pastor. I don't think someone who's gifted as a pastor could ever be an introvert, cuz it's all about people. They may not want to speak up here, but they care about the person across the table. They care about the one next to them. They make sure how they're doing. That's what a pastor is, anyway. I digress.

So I told you interested in learning interests and you have all the love in the learning and then finally, do you have the knowable agreement? Do people who know you agree that you might be called for this to be this gift to the church? this is where the role of Apostles come in great with if there's a father or mother who knows you And can say, yeah, I think you are, you could be an evangelist, you know, if that's great or you can be either, whatever and they speak that life into you. That's how the church needs to operate. I do believe like as a pastor, you are confirmed by the church. I think every one of these positions should be confirmed as the church. So,

Anyway. That's that's as we go along here. Finally, we get to the gifts from God. That's how it's explained in. Romans 12. These are given because we're all different and we all need his grace. In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things. Well, Strange. Things about these gifts in Romans, is that Every single one of them, we are either encouraged to do or commanded to do. What does that mean? Great, we'll get to that in a second. It says, in Romans 12, starting at verse 6 in his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things. Well, so if God has given you, the ability to prophesy speak out with, as much Faith as God has given you, if your gift is serving serve them. Well serving others, serve them. Well, if you're a teacher teach, well, if your gift is to encourage, encourage be encouraging. If it's giving, give generously, if God is giving you a leadership abilities. Take responsibility. Seriously. And if you have the gift for showing kindness to others, do it. Gladly Now in your notes I've written down that I do that. Oh yeah if you knew all the scriptures where you can look up to see that we're actually commanded or encouraged to do every single one of those things. So what is going on? Well.

I don't always like going back to the Greek, but this is just brilliant. In the Greek in this Romans 12:6. It says, with in his grace, the word for Grace is Charis. God has given us different careisma gifts. For doing certain things. Well, the word Charisma comes from the word for Grace Terrace. The suffix Oma indicates. A result from the grace. Charisma, is something that is given as a result of the crease of a giver. So, what is this? When we put it all together, what does this mean? Why does God command us to do certain things? And then get certain people to do it more easily? I don't know, he's got, he can do what he want, but stop us to do those things. If I don't have the gift of giving a gift of encouraging, please don't discourage other, people just in Courage, them decide to be an encouragement. Every time you come in here, the the the point with all of that is

God's grace is sufficient.

God's grace, is his enabling us to do the things that we can't do naturally.

The charisma.

Comes because of the grace of God.

Ephesians 2:8 says, for by Grace you have been saved through faith. It's not of yourself. It's a gift of God, not by works. Lest anyone should boast we, we want

I want to remember that it doesn't. It's it's how do we do all this?

These gifts aren't standard for us to try to live up to

they are something that naturally occurs in response to the grace of God. It arises faith in us to move in the gifts of the Spirit. It's a response to what people see the grace of God on the lives of certain individuals to be Apostles and Prophets and pastors and teachers an evangelist. it's, it's

It's all about God's grace, Romans 12. Look at the number of times, it talks about the grace of God, the grace of God, the grace of God,

It is not, I can do these things so I'm super Christian know you can do these things cuz you were lying on the grace of God. You do these things. It's it's it's it's I think it was even preached this morning when we were talking about worshiping regardless of if it's good or not it doesn't it's the grace of God who gives you breath. Guess what you can't do much without God and don't think you're doing anything to really impressive. He's got to be outside of time and space. You're not going to surprise them with your sin. You're not going to upset him. You're not going to to impress him with the gifts that he gives you to do use. He just loves you. and he empowers you any super naturally empowers you so why are you living as if he doesn't

The same power that raised Christ. Jesus from the dead is alive in you.

So why is this problem that get you scared a problem?

You don't have the answer, guess what God does?

You don't know what the next step is, you you can trust God. He's already there.

But what about the field? God's already in the future. He's got it all. Work out.

I want to go into a time of just reflection here now. I think we got lots of time.

Yeah, we're going to go into reflection. I'm going to skip what I was going to say. Cuz I want to give opportunity for Holy Spirit to speak to us directly.

The question, I want you to reflect upon and you when I say I want you to you can reflect on anything, you want to reflect upon you. I have a problem. So big you can't get your head around it and this isn't the time they got. Wants to break you out of that. It could be something to do with your relationship or finances or or physical body. It might be this is when God just wants to speak that word of Hope for that word of encouragement. But this is my suggestion to kind of try to apply all of this information.
