Why do Christian needs to Grow?
2 Peter 3:14–18 ESV
14 Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace. 15 And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, 16 as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures. 17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
Our key verse:
2 Peter 3:18 ESV
18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

I. Spiritual Growth Confirms Your Calling

“Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace.”
‭‭2 Peter 3:14
2 Peter 3:14 ESV
14 Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace.
This is the admonition of Peter to the persecuted believers as they await for the coming of our LORD as He promised.
He is saying, “The LORD is coming at hand and while waiting be diligent that you be found by Him”
Illustration: The Parable of the Ten Virgins
Matt. 25:1-13
“Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us.’ But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”
‭‭Matt. 25:11-13
Matthew 25:11–13 ESV
11 Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ 12 But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.
Only those who longs and await diligently for the coming of our LORD and Jesus Christ are the true believer and servant of the LORD.
Peter used the word waiting and patience.
Thats the reality, by nature we are not patient.
But Peter shows us the character of Christ that He is patient to us and His patience leads to our salvation.
God is giving us grace to repent and be saved.
“And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,”
‭‭2 Pet. 3:15
2 Peter 3:15 ESV
15 And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,
“Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace.”
‭‭2 Pet. 3:14
2 Peter 3:14 ESV
14 Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace.
“To be found by Him without spot or blemish” is impossible without God.
Thats why this will bring us to our understanding of our salvation and our election.
“And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,”
‭‭2 Pet. 3:15
2 Peter 3:15 ESV
15 And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,
“Kaya kaba naligtas dahil nakita na ng Dios na tutugon ka sa salita ng Dios?”
We believe that our Salvation is a sole work of God. God ordained before the foundation of the world that some people would be saved not according to any foreseen merit by only by God’s sovereign good pleasure.
In the order of Salvation (in latin, Ordo Salutis), we believe that regeneration (being born again), precedes conversion.
During the gospel call you respond to the word because at that appointed time God regenerates you (binigyan ka Niya ng bagong buhay at Spirito ng Dios kaya ka nakatugon at nanalig sa Kanya).
That explains that Salvation is a sole work of God, kaya gift of God yan, kaya yan grace. Dahil wala tayong bahagi sa ating kaligtasan. We don’t deserve this, biyaya lang ito ng Dios.

II. Spiritual Growth Affirms Your Hope

“You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability.”
‭‭2 Pet 3:17
2 Peter 3:17 ESV
17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability.
Though Peter is warning the believers so that they would not be carried away or deceived by any twisted truth, I would like to highlight the biblical truth in a positive sense that true growing believers are those who are Christ-ruled, Christ-centered people and those whose foundation are in the truth of Scripture. Sila ang mga taong may tunay na pagasa.
Lahat ito ay manifestation ng tunay na pagasa na meron tayo sa Dios.
Kaya sabi ni Peter grow in grace and knowledge of our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ. Magpakalago ka para malaman mo ang yaman ng ugnayan at pagasa na meron ka kay Kristo.
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.”
‭‭2 Pet 3:18
2 Peter 3:18 ESV
18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
Ang paglago sa biyaya ng Dios at pagkakilala kay Hesus ay hindi pwede maghiwalay. Dahil ang paglago at pagkilala sa Dios ay utos ng Dios sa bawat tunay na anak ng Dios.
Do not be content to what you know but continue to seek to grow in grace and in your knowledge of Him. Take every opportunity to grow. Because without growing is without hope.

III. Spiritual Growth Magnifies the Glory of Christ

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Amen.
Peter concludes His letter: “To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity”
Growing in grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ should lead to a transformed life into image of Christ.
Christ is magnified to every transformed life.
