Psalm 24:1–6 NKJV
1 The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. 2 For He has founded it upon the seas, And established it upon the waters. 3 Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully. 5 He shall receive blessing from the Lord, And righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6 This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face. Selah

This is Jacob

Jacob is
++the grandson of Abraham
++the inheritor of the patriarchal promises (Gen 28:3-4)
++the third and last of the major patriarchs
God used the patriarchs
++To show himself to the world
++As a form of self Identification
Exodus 3:6 NKJV
6 Moreover He said, “I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God.

God uses the past

America’s Generational Markers
++The roaring 50s
++The war torn 60s
++The liberal 70s
++The romantic 80s
++The rebellious 90
++The despondent millennial
Yet within each generation there is a people
++Of the Lord’s blessing
++A reminder of the truth
++A third generation

Jacob Has a History

A difficult start
Genesis 25:22–23 NKJV
22 But the children struggled together within her; and she said, “If all is well, why am I like this?” So she went to inquire of the Lord. 23 And the Lord said to her: “Two nations are in your womb, Two peoples shall be separated from your body; One people shall be stronger than the other, And the older shall serve the younger.”
A difficult start
++A difficult pregnancy
++A difficult prophecy
Esau and Jacob
++Grew up in the same house
++Grew up with different interest
Genesis 25:27 NKJV
27 So the boys grew. And Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field; but Jacob was a mild man, dwelling in tents.
Jacob was
++Not motivated by Conquest
++More motivated by Comfort
Genesis 25:29–34 NKJV
29 Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary. 30 And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called Edom. 31 But Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of this day.” 32 And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?” 33 Then Jacob said, “Swear to me as of this day.” So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.

Why did Jacob want Esau despised?

The Birthright
++a special inheritance among other siblings _(often double)_
++also includes the inheritance of their household
2 Kings 2:9–10 NKJV
9 And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.” 10 So he said, “You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so.”
The the receiving of a double portion
++Is a hard thing
++Requires a different relationship
Receiving the double portion
++Had little to do with Elijah
++Elisha had only to stay long enough
Elisha stayed and recieved.

Jacob Was Different

Elisha wanted
++What he saw in Elijah
++To be like Him
++To do it better
Jacob wanted it all
++The greater inheritance
++The family fortune
++The authority to rule it

Jacob represented the third generation

Psalm 24:1–3 NKJV
1 The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. 2 For He has founded it upon the seas, And established it upon the waters. 3 Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place?

The Third Generation Will Recognized God’s Authority

The Earth is the Lord’s
++God has giving management to man
++God holds the deed.
Psalm 24:4 NKJV
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully.

The Third Generation will regard a life of purity and hold it in high esteem.

This is God’s call to both
++Righteousness (Heart Issue)
Matthew 15:8 NKJV
8 ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me.
Joel 2:13 NKJV
13 So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the Lord your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm.
Romans 10:10 NKJV
10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
This is God’s call to both
++Righteousness _(Heart Issue)_
++Holiness _(Hand Issue)_
Matthew 23:23 NKJV
23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.
Galatians 6:9 NKJV
9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

The Third Generation will receives His covenant blessing

Psalm 24:5 NKJV
5 He shall receive blessing from the Lord, And righteousness from the God of his salvation.

God Keeps His Promises

Acts 7:5 NKJV
5 And God gave him no inheritance in it, not even enough to set his foot on. But even when Abraham had no child, He promised to give it to him for a possession, and to his descendants after him.
Genesis 32:24–27 NKJV
24 Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day. 25 Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him. 26 And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.” But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!” 27 So He said to him, “What is your name?” He said, “Jacob.”

God changed His name

Jacob
++Supplanter
++Heel catcher
Genesis 32:28 NKJV
28 And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.”

The Third Generation will rest under Gods favor and grace

The Third Generation wants more than
++Position
++Promotion
++Power
Psalm 24:6 NKJV
6 This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face. Selah
Isaiah 60:1–3 NKJV
1 Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. 2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you. 3 The Gentiles shall come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising.
With each generation
++Darkness seems to prevail
++Darkness covers the earth
++Darkness is an invasive force
But God has a generation
++That will arise
++That will shine
++That will dispel the darkness
++That will leave it mark

This is the function of grace.

Grace will
++Speak in the atmosphere of faith
++Declare undeserved favor
++Rescue us
Paul said it is only by the grace of God I am what I am
