LET’S PRAY

Father, we love You, and thank You, You are a good God. We thank You that You are here with us today. I pray that our minds will be alert and our hearts open to receive all You have for us today. Bless Your people today in Jesus’ name. Amen
Today our focus will be on the importance and the power of prayer in our lives.
I have titled my message: Great Power & Wonderful Results
James 5:13–20 NLT
13 Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises. 14 Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven. 16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. 17 Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years! 18 Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops. 19 My dear brothers and sisters, if someone among you wanders away from the truth and is brought back, 20 you can be sure that whoever brings the sinner back from wandering will save that person from death and bring about the forgiveness of many sins.
James 5:16 NLT
16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.
James 5:16 M:BCL
16 Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed. The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with.
Be reckoned with: Worth taking seriously because of being powerful, important, or good (Christ living in us)
(Billy Graham), once remarked: "We are to pray in times of adversity, lest we become faithless and unbelieving. We are to pray in times of prosperity, lest we become boastful and proud. We are to pray in times of danger, lest we become fearful and doubting. We are to pray in times of security, lest we become self-sufficient."
Philippians 4:6 NKJV
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
You might be asking yourself, Do I have to be some spiritual giant to have an effective and powerful prayer life?
I don’t have to have done Bible College to be an effective prayer warrior?
James says “the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”
I hope you see in this passage the potential for our prayer life.
Young people, imagine what God wants to do through you?
Connect Life leader, just imagine and dream what God wants to do in your life group members? (PRAY ABOUT THIS BELIEVE FOR IT)
Husband, imagine what God can do in and through your family when you pray for your spouse and your children?

Point 1

God is looking for serious people of prayer

Ephesians 6:18 NLT
18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
Your yieldedness determines your fruitfulness
Yieldedness: Yielding to God means we surrender our lives to Jesus and commit to follow Him and let Him lead.
God never asked us to evaluate Him, He asks us to experience Him
My Father’s house will be called a house of prayer for all nations
Joshua 24:15 NKJV
15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Point 2

Be devoted

Acts 2:42 NLT
42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.
They devoted themselves to:
⦁ The apostles teaching
⦁ The fellowship
⦁ The breaking of bread
⦁ And prayer
God is restoring the alter of prayer in the centre of the church
Matthew 21:12–14 NKJV
12 Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ” 14 Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them.
After prayer was restored His presence returned
Broken people are drawn to His presence
We need to grow in our prayer life so that we have something to give, His presence
We need more time in His presence
Nobody else is going to fight for your time in the presence of God (you are responsible)

Point 3

The power of prayer

Mark 9:17–29 NLT
17 One of the men in the crowd spoke up and said, “Teacher, I brought my son so you could heal him. He is possessed by an evil spirit that won’t let him talk. 18 And whenever this spirit seizes him, it throws him violently to the ground. Then he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast out the evil spirit, but they couldn’t do it.” 19 Jesus said to them, “You faithless people! How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.” 20 So they brought the boy. But when the evil spirit saw Jesus, it threw the child into a violent convulsion, and he fell to the ground, writhing and foaming at the mouth. 21 “How long has this been happening?” Jesus asked the boy’s father. He replied, “Since he was a little boy. 22 The spirit often throws him into the fire or into water, trying to kill him. Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.” 23 “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” 24 The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!” 25 When Jesus saw that the crowd of onlookers was growing, he rebuked the evil spirit. “Listen, you spirit that makes this boy unable to hear and speak,” he said. “I command you to come out of this child and never enter him again!” 26 Then the spirit screamed and threw the boy into another violent convulsion and left him. The boy appeared to be dead. A murmur ran through the crowd as people said, “He’s dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him to his feet, and he stood up. 28 Afterward, when Jesus was alone in the house with his disciples, they asked him, “Why couldn’t we cast out that evil spirit?” 29 Jesus replied, “This kind can be cast out only by prayer.”
Why is prayer so powerful?
It brings the presence of God
Prayer connected to the word of God, builds our faith
It leads to a manifestation of the power of God
A powerless church, presents to the world an inferior God
1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 NKJV
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Prayer is what develops intimacy with God. If we don't pray it's very hard to be intimacy with Him.
Prayer is our personal communication with God and is probably one of the most important aspects of life.
It allows us to talk through our everyday concerns and problems that we are encountering.
It allows us to seek forgiveness and offer repentance for our transgressions. 1 John 1:9 confirms: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
The Power of Prayer
All the power of God is at the disposal of true prayer; our power in prayer is in the word of God. “Your Kingdom come Your will be done”. Our prayers need to line up with the word of God.
If we ask anything in His name
1 John 5:13–15 NKJV
13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. 14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
John 16:23–24 NKJV
23 “And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. 24 Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
Praying in the name of Jesus. Jesus’ name is the only name that can activate the power of Heaven.
Philippians 2:9–10 NKJV
9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,
All of us have the power to bring Gods will on Earth so the world can be healed and transformed by His grace.
2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV
14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
