SANDSTORM

ABQ PICTURE
Sandstorm can hurt you. blind you. Get in your lungs. Shame feels the same way. The SANDSTORM of SHAME
The ENEMY is all about SHAME on YOU. Jesus says SHAME OFF YOU.
Shame Is The All-Consuming Emotional Condition That We've Let Down Ourselves, Others, And God.
Some SHAME is caused by us. — Some happened to us.
SIN — GUILT — REPENTANCE
When we get stuck in shame we miss out on God’s best for us. There is a missing piece in what God wants to do because we are not who God wants us to be.
When we live in SHAME we hide. like Adam and Eve
GUILT IS A COMMA — SHAME IS A PERIOD
I messed up. I was addicted. OR I had an abortion. I was abused. I am divorced. Shame puts a period. The enemy says SHAME ON YOU. PERIOD. Jesus says COMMA — SHAME OFF YOU.
SHAME ALSO TELLS US THAT LIFE GOALS WILL TAKE AWAY THE SHAME.
Shame says random life goals will take away the SHAME. If I get married the shame will end. If I get that job that raise the shame will end. If I get the guy the girl shame will end. If I get to this weight the shame will end. If I just work hard enough the shame will end. If I just make up for my mistakes the shame will end.
MOSES — CRAZY TIME TO BE ALIVE — CARRIED SHAME BECAUSE OF WHO HE WAS — BORN IN TIME WHEN ALL BOYS WERE ORDERED TO BE KILLED
PUT IN BASKET — ENDED UP IN PHAROH’S HOUSE
1st 40 HE WAS SOMEBODY — NEXT 40 NOBODY — NEXT 40 LEARNED THAT GOD CAN USE ANYBODY
Exodus 2:11–12 CSB
11 Years later, after Moses had grown up, he went out to his own people and observed their forced labor. He saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his people. 12 Looking all around and seeing no one, he struck the Egyptian dead and hid him in the sand.
CAN YOU IMAGINE THE SHAME HE FELT
He felt so much shame that he ran and ran to the back of the desert and eventually one day he stopped running. And because of shame he spent 40 years in hiding. SHAME can do some crazy things to us.
WE HAVE TO STOP RUNNING AS WELL.
SHAME IS A PERIOD. But when we decide to give it to Jesus he not only forgives he not only heals but he CHOOSES to FORGET. That’s the amazing thing about Jesus.
MISTAKE - Fearfully and wonderfully made
UNWORTHY – Worth Christ On A Cross
NOT ENOUGH - More than conquers
UNLOVABLE - Adopted
Exodus 3:11- Who am I?
Exodus 4:1 - What if they do not believe me or listen to me?
Exodus 4:10 - Slow of speech, slow of tongue
Exodus 4:13 - Please send someone else
MOSES IS STUCK IN SHAME. What I cannot do. Who I am. The problems I have. The issues I have. The things I’m bad at. The messes I’ve caused. And he starts counting himself out when God is trying to bring him in.
And SOMETHING AMAZING happens.
This is one of my favorite passages in the Bible. Because God tells moses something 4 times. 4 times he uses this phrase that if you don’t pay attention to you will miss it.
CHECK THIS OUT.
Exodus 3:13–15 CSB
13 Then Moses asked God, “If I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what should I tell them?” 14 God replied to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you.” 15 God also said to Moses, “Say this to the Israelites: The Lord, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is my name forever; this is how I am to be remembered in every generation.
ABRAHAM MAKES SENSE
ISAAC WAS A MAN OF GOD AS WELL
BUT JACOB??
The deceiver? His name literally means heel grabber because he was a twin and tried to pull himself out first. Because the first born got the bulk of the fathers blessing. Even from birth he was trying to steal and get ahead.
Jacob was messed up.
Jacob one day tricked his father… Isaac.. into giving him his brothers blessing. Then spent years on the run abandoned his family and previous life. Spent years in hiding. Stole his families blessing that was meant and promised to the older brother. That’s Jacob.
WHY would God identify as the God of JACOB?! Because that wasn’t the end of Jacobs story. There wasn’t a period. There was a comma.
JACOB AT BETHEL
JACOB WRESTLES WITH GOD
AND GOD SAYS WHEN MY PEOPLE ASK WHAT KIND OF GOD I AM. WHO I AM. WHEN THEY NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ME TELL THEM IM NOT JUST THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, IM NOT JUST THE GOD OF ISAAC. IM THE GOD OF JACOB TOO.
I’m the God of that dark side of you that you think no one knows about. I’m the God who loves you despite what you’ve done. I’m the God who has a plan and a hope and a future for you even though you’ve ran. I’m the God of the comma. I’m the God of Jacob too!
Exodus 20:13 KJV 1900
13 Thou shalt not kill.
Psalm 103:11–12 CSB
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his faithful love toward those who fear him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
