Not so much what know but love
and yet eternal life is to know Christ....
farmer in time of Christ..
small amount of seeds
my life lies on life my crop
... not till my land of rocks and weeds... fling it willy nilly dust
so whats going on here?
ultra generous farmer to the dust of earth
sows on dust roads, rocks, weeds, and also good soil
we are dust, and unto dust we shall return
earth
the seed is the Word
Greek, the Logos, gives our minds understanding.
This understanding (more than a mere intellectual idea) is salvation John 17:3
parable say, 3 things:
God wills all saved + COME TO KNOWLEDGE OF TRUTH 1 tim 2:4 2 Pet 3:9
Gives all means salvation (the seed)
but need cultivation to grow to knowledge of salvation
Dusting SEEDS of salvation doesn’t mean grow to salvation
to grow, the land must be tilled of weeds and rocks and broken down to dirt
to know Christ must cultivate the soil of our hearts
to cultivate is to seek God
we must love to find, not find to love.
get backwards in world
hard unless rams into you breaking you
knowledge is not before love, love is before knowledge.
The more you seek something, the more you know it
studies in school
hobbies you’ve picked up
person you date
As James 1:6, St. Irenaeus, Augustine, Anselm, and CCC 546 say, we must choose to believe to know
who love God God revealed, to those who don’t remains a forever unsolvable parable
choose not want Christianity true, trust me, you’ll be able to find an excuse
if want, truth itself will provide a solution to any problem
knowledge is fruit of love
To let the seed of Christ grow, we must cultivate the land of our will
Create a real opening in hardness that doesnt require him to force himself in
remove our rocky sneering hardness
uproot the weeds of attachment
Then the Logos can take root in our lives as good works, and fruiten into understanding
And so, God hides mysteries behind parables like seeds in their shell
For if he told those hardened the truth it would be rejected with a sneer, pearls before swine
‘I KNOW what YOU mean!!!’
Yet a parable might tempt to think
a story can draw in an uncaring audience
visual earthly symbols can delight even the most wicked
Tempt think, for to think is seek thing thought about, and might fruiten into knowledge
rolling around the words on their tongue
and so in toying with a parable, one might begin to till the land of their will
and the seed might, with enough time, grow
Thus God gives the seed of salvation to all, as a pure gift to all mankind,
but we must till our soil for it to grow.
that is, must first love God for to receive salvific understanding
let us roll these mysteries on tounge which is invitation of God, think, reflect, meditate, pray w/ purpose WANTING to find
dont expect knowledge w/o love
for it is more what we love that matters than what know
cultivate and you will find, for where your will is, there WILL be where your fruit grows

Notes:

me
Prob topic:
saved by understanding
James 1:5-6, wisdom is a grace comes after faith
Irenaeus reflects this
Augustine: their blindness helps a better conversion post crucifixion
CCC 546: must enter to know, outside remain ignorant
sin darkens the mind
see knowledge as a pre-req rather than gift
understanding requires cultivation (sown in our nature [not artifact], remove rock, remove thorns)
parables force us to cultivate rather than just hear and dismiss or accept which already happen based on our disposition
by giving in parables, maybe not so much hiding, but allowing the blind who hear and do not understand a possibility of understanding.
told wise but rather simple get it
sophistry clouds (e.g. Bart erhman) what can be solved if delve deeper
heart comes thru
have to delve to understand (so heart first)
indifferently sows everywhere
to understand one must first love
parable reflects reason he speaks in parables
just seed not enough
have to bring a disposition to it
We are dirt/dust/earth
purpose is to grow fruit
Commentators
Erasmo
puts distance:
at water
using parables
Chrysostom
went to sow (not till, not uprooting)
stupid in earthly sense to sow on rock and thorns and roadside
charge is against our bad wills that prevent receiving more
shows would heal if convert
Augustine
blindness has to be their fault not God’s even if in John it can appear to be God’s initiative n blinding
this blinding enabled greater conversion, perhaps needing greater humbling, b/ they became guilty of deicide [still guilty despite blindness b/c sins made blind]
Remigius
rock vs soil (soil is soft, pliable, not hardened heart)
Jerome
connects briars and thorns to Adam’s curse
