Have you ever read something in scripture or in life that when you first read it you don’t understand but you have heard from others it is true???
One of those might be for you
In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
You are like huh??
That is so unAmerican, so against my flesh…what do you mean it is better to GIVE than receive???
America and the human mindset says we are more blessed when we receive more....right??? anybody thought that way???
Then you live out this verse…you live a life of blessing others and who ends up blessed too? YOU
There is also the promise of Scripture that says you cannot out give god
God owns the cattle on a thousand hills
In fact God comes down heavy on the nation of Israel
Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.
What we learn is it is more blessed to give than receive and you cannot out give God
Today we are going to be on another one those “I don’t understand this”
It is something that tripped me up for years and God tells us to do it over 300 times in scriptures
What is it? FEAR THE LORD
But wait last week week we learned we are not to FEAR, not to be afraid
This is confusing!!!
It this verse saying FEAR GOD, be afraid of HIM, but don’t fear anything...
FEAR THE WRATH OF GOD…be afraid of God is coming to get
is that what the it means to fear the Lord
NO
It is confusing because we think there is only one definition of FEAR
ONE DEFINITION MEANS TO BE AFRAID!!!
WHOA! AND GOD SAYS DON’T FEAR…WHAT ARE WE NOT TO FEAR OR BE AFRAID
DEMONIC POWERS OF DARKNESS
Why shouldn’t fear the power of darkness???
for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
We have the armor of God
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
2. MAN…ANYBODY FEAR MAN BEFORE?
The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.
The fear of human opinion disables;
trusting in GOD protects you from that.
The fear of man is a trap…anybody felt trapped by a man??
3. PROBLEMS…THE WHAT IF’S OF LIFE
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
HE IS YOUR GOOD GOOD FATHER
DO NOT FEAR
BUT WE ARE TOLD TO FEAR THE LORD....WHAT DOES THAT MEAN…BE AFRAID
NO, THERE IS A SECOND PRIMARY OF FEAR WHICH MEANS TO GIVE AWE TO GOD, TO WORSHIP HIM, HONOR HIM, REVERE HIM, RESPECT HIM, SUMBIT TO HIM, VALUE YOU HIM.
To FEAR GOD IS TO GIVE YOUR AWE TO HIM
I don’t totally like this illistration, to be in AWE of someone is to be like how some people respond when they see their favorite celebrity or sports player
Weak in the knees, excitement, they have your full attention and excitement.
How much more should we have this with God
We see this in scripture when people meet God the Father what is the number one response??? hi nice to meet you??

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY the whole earth is full of the glory of God
To Fear God means to GIVE REVERANCE, WORSHIP and SUBMIT TO HIM/OBEY HIM
WORSHIP IS TO GET WORTH to someone or something else
We do this in praising
Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Today, if you hear his voice,
It is singing and praising…worship but more importantly it is to have God be #1 in your life…the thing you give ultimate value and respect and honor too.

How do we know if we are worshipping God??? A test we can take is
Where do I spend my time, talent, treasure, and what do I think about?
Who are we spending time with? Is God part of your time on a daily basis?
What are you doing with the gifts that God has given to you? Are you using for the kingdom of God
Where do you spend your money? Are you tithing
What do you think about? Is your mind on the Lord
There are times in our lives we answer and we don’t like the answer…I had this bad as a youth pastor…I was too much into fantasy football...

It is a good thing, but it has become an ultimate thing…Whoa
What about you?
what is the thing you are worshipping?
JOB…this is easy to do
RELATOINSHIP....God is not #1 but the relationship is number #1
ME...
THE LORD SAYS HE IS THE ONE WHO IS TO CAPTVATE OUR EYE
2. TO FEAR THE LORD IS TO SUMBIT TO GOD AS KING
- OBEY AND SUBMIT to the LORD
We don’t like that do we in our world and in our flesh…SUBMIT???? ARE YOU KIDDING ME
I will submit to what I want to SUBMIT too…then you don’t fear the LORD
We create our own Thomas Jefferson Bible…cut things out
Ultimate intimacy is for marriage, cut that out
Don’t rest on the Sabbath…work
Don’t tithe…that is OT not NT
Do not quench the Spirit.
What we are not doing is submitting to KING JESUS...

WHY?
Wisdom
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
The ESV Study Bible Chapter 1
“Knowledge” and “wisdom” are closely tied together in Proverbs: “knowledge” tends to focus on correct understanding of the world and oneself as creatures of the magnificent and loving God, while “wisdom” is the acquired skill of applying that knowledge rightly, or “skill in the art of godly living”
How is this true??? How is it that when we FEAR the Lord, submit to God as King that we get WISDOM and KNOWLEDGE???
Because who’s the source of all WISDOM and KNOWLEDGE?? God
so when we FEAR GOD AND SUBMIT TO HIM, what do we get??? WISDOM and KNOWLEDGE
What’s the difference…knowledge focuses on understanding wisdom is the ability to apply that knowledge
God gives us WISDOM and KNOWLEDGE OF HOW WE ARE TO OPPERATE and LIVE IN THE LIFE WE HAVE NOW
Psalm 23:3 (ESV)
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
2. Fear of God keeps us from Sin
By steadfast love and faithfulness iniquity is atoned for, and by the fear of the Lord one turns away from evil.
How does God FEARING GOD worship and submitting keep us form sin??
God and sin are complete opposites. GOD IS HOLY and SIN is UNHOLY…so if you submit to and worship God FEAR GOD the HOLY one do you become more like HOLINESS or more like unholiness?
you start submitting to what God loves
righteous, justice
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
and you hate what He hates.
You fear God who hates sin
- submitting to God is hating what he hates.
- he hates I justice
- he hates cruel language
- he hates
There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him:
haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil,
a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.
If we don’t FEAR the LORD we will become prey to sin
If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it.”
This is what happened to Jim Baker....He had the largest ministry in the world but he commit mail fraud and he commited an affair
John Bevere....
“what led you to be out of love with Jesus???”
He said, it was not that I didn’t love Jesus....I stop FEARING THE LORD…I stop submitting to Jesus as King and when he did…he did what he wanted
3. Fear of God brings Healing and Refreshment to your bones…(after famous verse of trust in the Lord with all your heart)
Proverbs 3:7–8 (ESV)
Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.
How so?
“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.
For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
HIS WAYS LEAD TO LIFE.....His ways lead to healing
ANYBODY ASK HOW COME I AM HURTING AND THE LORD SAYS BECAUSE YOU ARE SEEKING YOUR OWN WILL OVER MY WILL??
WORSHIP (fear) THE LORD: BRINGS refreshing
Anybody been here?

4. Give us courage and confidence: ANYBODY EVER HAVFE THIS
In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge.
The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, that one may turn away from the snares of death.
Worship gives confidence: anybody come in here and worship the Lord and you
ANYBODY EVER HAVE THIS SITUATION WHERE YOU ARE THE OPPOISITE OF COURAGE, YOU ARE BEAT UP, YOU ARE DOWN AND OUT

WORSHIP IS OUR WARFARE
WORSHIP ENCOURAGES US....PUTS COURAGE IN US
The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.
We see this in the Bible
- Daniel lions Den
- David Goliath
- Paul
5. FEAR OF THE LORD: Fulfills desires and
He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them.
God promises to fulfill the desires of those who fear him
GOD PROMISES TO BLESS HIS CHILDREN
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
6. Protects
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
He’s your deliver!
7. Prolongs life
The fear of the Lord prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be short.
Gives life to your life
Greatest thing the Lord did is defeat our greatest FEAR of SIN, DEATH, and SHAME
