Jesus Drops A Bombshell

Luke 16 19 - 24.
Jesus has just named His 12 Apostles
He has come down from the hill and healing the people
now He is beginning to teach
and what He teaches caused peoples mouth to fall open
Blessed are the poor
the hungry
the crying
the hated
Woe to the rich
well fed
the laughing people
the popular people
again Jesus is going against the societal norms
it is against the societal norms of today
we think of the rich and famous as blessed
we envy the megabucks winners
and go out and buy more lottery tickets
maybe I will be blessed also
the prosperity gospel is alive and well in the poorest countries in the world
because they want to be blessed also
so they give their last dollar to GOD/preacher as seed money
so that God will bless them also
the rich young ruler went away sad because he had great riches
the rich man and Lazarus
Luke 16 19 - 24.
we will be looking at this example through out this morning
and how Jesus flips the world thought process up side down
Luke 6 20-26.

The Blessed

there are 3 blessings that people receive when they are saved
these blessings are spiritual to the
the poor
the hungry
the crying
remember what Jesus mission was in ch 4
Luke 4:18 (LSB)
THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR. HE HAS SENT ME TO PROCLAIM RELEASE TO THE CAPTIVES, AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET FREE THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED,
V 20 blessed are the poor
this poor is poor in spirit
someone who the Holy Spirit has opened up their eyes to their spiritual depravity
someone who has realized their need of a Savior
someone who has realized the blackness of their sin and the Holiness of God
These poor are blessed with the Kingdom of God
they are taken out of the kingdom of this world
and given a citizenship in God’s kingdom
Ephesians 1:3–11 LSB
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him in love, by predestining us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He graciously bestowed on us in the Beloved. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our transgressions, according to the riches of His grace which He caused to abound to us in all wisdom and insight, making known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Him for an administration of the fullness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth in Him. In Him, we also have been made an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,
What blessings we have
Legacy Standard Bible (CHAPTER 6)
Blessed are the poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
these are present tense
these blessings you now possess
even though we don’t see them fully right now
V 21 the hungry
this hunger is for righteousness
Psalm 23:3 LSB
He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
people who have been given this hunger will be able to feast on the word of God and His righteousness
and will be satisfied
to be full so much you have to let out your belt
V 21 those who cry
over their sin
over their rebellion against God
over their hatred against God
over the years of wasted time
before believing on the Lord Jesus for salvation
before calling upon Jesus in faith
then we will laugh because of the change in us
because of the spiritual blessings we now posses
after this there is a 4th blessing
V 22 your friends and family will hate you
will not understand you anymore
the world hated Jesus and we also will be hated as a follower
V 23 10 seconds in Heaven and we will forget all of the persecution of this earth
James 1:2–4 LSB
Consider it all joy, my brothers, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith brings about perseverance. And let perseverance have its perfect work, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
what is our attitude toward trials and persecutions
are we glad and leap for Joy?
we are persecuted because we are of the Kingdom of God
we are persecuted because we are the bride of Christ
we may be poor physically now but
we are co heirs with Jesus in the Kingdom
we will be married to Jesus and all He own we will also
we may be hungry physically now but
there is a marriage banquet waiting for us and we will not get up from the table until we are satisfied / full of heavenly food
there wont be any reason to cry
no more sorrow or pain
the people who persecuted us will be Judged by Jesus
we have been blessed beyond measure
we will see a new aspect of God’s grace every new day
this man Lazarus in this world was eating the crumbs from the rich mans table
is now in Heaven enjoying all it has to offer
but woe to the Rich man

Woe

V 24 -26
sometimes we are envious of the rich and famous
we want to be blessed like them
But the blessings of Jesus are just the opposite
there are so called christian churches that promise prosperity to give to the church
and people flock to these churches by the millions to receive some of that God money
to receive a healing
to receive a special blessing from God
but there is only woe to these people
and there is a Judgement for these pastors that are preying on poverty to make themselves rich
promising blessings to people today that were only promised to ancient Israel
promises to people that are unbiblical
woe to these preachers
woe to the pharisees who are putting heavy burdens on people
Christian you are Blessed now and for eternity
you may not be rich in worldly goods but are rich in heavenly rewards
don't let the glimmer and bling of this world distract you
don’t let the rich and famous distract you
you are a citizen of the Kingdom of God
