Man’s Place in God's Creation

We have a culture that is fascinated with the thought of intelligent life in outer space. We love science fiction, and we love the thought that we may someday travel the stars.

We find it comforting to think that we are not alone in this universe. The subject of aliens and UFO’s are huge money makers…this topic has certainly captured our attention.

So. . . what does the Bible have to say about this, what are Christians to believe? The Bible doesn’t actually address this issue, at least not directly.

There is nothing in the scripture that could be rightfully interpreted as an encounter with alien life. But wait, you say, the Bible doesn’t mention kangaroos either, but they exist! Well. . .you’re absolutely right.

the lack of any mention of aliens in the Bible is not reason enough to believe they don’t exist. So where does that leave us?

First, lets clarify one point – UFO means unidentified flying object, nothing more.

We have come to equate UFOs with alien life, but that is not necessarily the case. A UFO is not necessarily a spaceship driven by aliens, it is simply an unidentified flying object – meaning we don’t know what it is.

Now back to the main point. If Scripture doesn’t mention aliens, then the next question we need to ask is “does the idea of intelligent life on other planets violate any Biblical doctrine?”

To answer that, let’s look at some Scripture.

Eve is the mother of all living

Genesis 3:20

Genesis 3:20 NKJV

And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.

Eve is the mother of all living. Both the context and the underlying Hebrew give the implication of life with a soul (obviously eve was not the mother of cows, goats, dogs, cats, etc.).

Eve was the mother of all who have received God’s breath of life, and she has only lived on earth.

Jesus is the only means of salvation in all of God’s creation

John 14:6

John 14:6 NKJV

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Jesus is the only way of salvation. He came as a man to save mankind. Jesus didn’t come as any other type of living creature; therefore, salvation does not extend to anything but mankind. This is significant because aliens would be under the curse of sin, because Adam’s sin affected the entire creation. Therefore, aliens would be in need of salvation.

Adam’s sin affected all of God’s creation

Romans 8:22

Romans 8:22 NKJV

For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.

So maybe you’re asking “couldn’t God have given aliens their own means of salvation?” Remember, the only means of salvation in God’s entire creation is Jesus Christ.

Christ only died once

1 Peter 3:18

1 Peter 3:18 NKJV

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,

We are told that Christ only died only once. In fact, He cannot be crucified again, but who did He die for? We already mentioned that He came as a man, for a man. Consider this verse:

Christ died as a man for the sins of man

Isaiah 59:20

Isaiah 59:20 NKJV

“The Redeemer will come to Zion, And to those who turn from transgression in Jacob,” Says the Lord.

The word redeemer, in the Hebrew denotes the job of a kinsman redeemer. He is related to those for whom He gave His life. This, also, would exclude alien life forms.

Acts 4:12

Acts 4:12 NKJV

Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

“No other name under heaven” would encompass the entirety of God’s creation, the entire universe.

These alleged aliens, if intelligent enough to travel the stars, would presumably have souls, yet they cannot be descended from Eve because she never traveled the stars.

If they are soulless creatures, than they would be no better than the animals we have on earth, and would lack the necessary intelligence for such technological advances.

This should put major doubts as to whether intelligent life exists on other planets.

Next, the earth and mankind are the “center” of God’s creation.

Note the creation account of Genesis chapter 1, with a special emphasis on Genesis 1:1.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

The heavens and the earth were created first, and everything else was meant to supplement the earth for man’s benefit And God’s glory.

The other heavenly bodies were not created until day four, and they were created to be our clock.

They were placed so that we could measure seasons and days and years.

All other heavenly bodies were created to be our clock

Genesis 1:14

Genesis 1:14 NKJV

Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years;

The earth will one day pass away, and a new earth will be created. Note that no other planets will be recreated.

Of all the planets in the universe, only the earth will be recreated

2 Peter 3:10–13

2 Peter 3:10 NKJV

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

Revelation 21:1

Revelation 21:1 NKJV

Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.

Remember also, that man is made in God’s image. Could we say that of aliens, too? Ultimately, one would have to believe that aliens are intelligent yet soulless creatures, with no purpose or hope.

Now, none of this is meant to demean anyone who has had any legitimate encounter with some unknown object or creature.

However, it should help us to put those encounters into the proper perspective.

Without a doubt, some encounters are nothing but a hoax by people who seek attention and notoriety. This has been proven on many occasions.

Some UFO sightings are likely top-secret or experimental technology, this too has been proven many times in the past.

Many encounters, though, are demonic.

People who have had “alien” encounters often view it as a spiritual event, a source of enlightenment. In fact, most recorded encounters and abductions occur with people who have been involved in the occult, in some form or another.

Another common thread among the instances, is the spiritual connection.

Often times, biblical events are and prophecy are mentioned by the supposed aliens.

Often, they present themselves as the messiah, a savior of mankind.

They typically take Scripture and twist it into a lie. Remember, this is Satan’s motifs operandi. Deception and twisting scripture.

If Satan can use this fascination with aliens to draw people away from the truth of God’s word, he certainly will.

In fact, he has found a huge audience among our culture today, and the entire deception is steeped in satan’s oldest lie. . . evolution.

Evolutionists yearn to find alien life, because if life could have evolved on other planets, it could have evolved here on earth too.

This, in and of itself, ultimately leads us away from God’s truth.

We’ve literally spent millions of dollars trying to locate extraterrestrial life, all to no avail, but the truth is, we are not alone.

We have a God who will never leave us nor forsake us, and we are under His constant watch and care. What more could we ask for?
