God has been, and is, active in our world.

This is a central, foundational, and core truth of Scripture. To be faithful Christians we must remember that God did not just create and then take a “hands off” posture but instead remains active in the world he created.

The OT call: Remember!

How easy it is to forget. As someone remarked to me once: Memory is the second thing to go in age, I wish I could remember the first.”

We must be aware of reality.

We must be aware of how things really are.

Prayer: God help me see things as you see them, as they really are.

Life would change if we prayed this every day. I pray this often before I work with someone. Help me to see things not as they appear but as they really are. Give me eyes to see things from your perspective O God.

A replay of Israel’s history.

Hosea in our passage this morning starts to pick up some of the key moments of Israel’s life through a series of word plays.

Hosea is trying to get Israel to see things as they “really” are.

The nation seems to think things are going well or they do not have to worry too much about the future.

We all want certainty.

As they go towards calling on Egypt and Assyria for help this is their goal. Just help me to know with certainty my next move. It is easier to trust what we “see” than that which we cannot “see”. The problem is we do not see clearly nor correctly.

Next steps: Remember what Jesus has done.

As we come to Communion in a little bit this is an active part of remembering. Maybe make a spiritual timeline.

Next steps: don’t let certainty get in the way of trusting Jesus.

Sometimes we must have faith that Christ is going to come through. We must trust Jesus the only “certain” one.

Prayer: Open my eyes to see!

Do we really want to see? Do we really want more of Jesus?
