I can depend on God

 Text:    Psalm 46:1-5 “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.

5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.”

Subject: I can depend on God

Introduction: here, the Psalmist brings assurance to the people of God, whereby they are reassured of his security and protection.  The Psalmist this song to the chief musician or choir director of the Temple; the choir director is the one who ought to be able to lead God’s people in praise and worship. In other words, when choir members pout, the leader ought to have a Praise.

In verses one, two and three, we discover God’s Protection  

verses four and five, discloses God’s Paradise. For we see the perfect peace and tranquility of God. For there is a river and a place of God’s presence that cannot be destroyed. In other words, there is a place in God, where the world can’t do you no harm.

Though the world is destroyed and there are earthquakes in diverse places. Though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea, God is in the midst of her and she shall not be moved…

In other words, when you hear of earthquakes and rumors of wars, just know time is winding up. And soon and very soon, we are going to see the King. 

Don’t try to explain it, you can’t. But just remember that you cannot escape it, because God has said it and that settles it.  For his word has been settled in heaven. And in every situation God is with us.  

And since God is with us in every situation, we will not fear.

When we consider the History around the Hebrew Psalter or hymnbook called the Psalms, we find that the song was written for the Levitical Choir called the sons of Korah, upon the Alamoth which is the maidens of virgins.

Three things God is to his people: verse one

He is our refuge, our strength and our help.

The fivefold confidence that we have in God: verses two and three

Therefore, though, though, though, and though:

·       Therefore, we will not fear

·       Though, the earth be removed

·       Through, the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea

·       Though, the waters roar and be troubled

·       Though, the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.
