What do you think that means, others?

It’s OK to love yourself, but you must love others and think of others more than self. Love others. Think of what Jesus said in (Mt22:39)
39 “The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
What do you think if means to have concern for others or to bear the weaknesses of others?
Remember back, so long ago back in chapter-14 we talked about Christian liberty and and principles of conscience.
Use your Christian liberty to serve your brother, to love your brother to please your brother not just please and look out for yourself.
The tenor of the world is look out for #1, self, regardless of how if may impact others.
This is anti-culture and pushes against people who live a life that sacrifices for others like Christians do. They think we are weak; where in reality we are strong

I think we can agree that Jesus life was a lesson, that His life was a teaching, that His life was a living example.
May we again look at (Rom15:3-4)
3 For even Christ didn’t live to please himself. As the Scriptures say, “The insults of those who insult you, O God, have fallen on me.”
4 Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.
Jesus is the example of not living for Himself. Another great example previously mentioned is (Php2:5-11).
Maybe we should turn there and briefly look at that example. I won’t put on the screen so turn in your bibles there.
Php2:5-11 “5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
He put others first
He took abuse and suffered wrong for God’s glory
He fulfilled what was written before in the scripture (the O.T.)
Something to consider, something we may truly need to remember: God vindicates us through Christ Jesus instead of us trying to vindicate ourselves. How often do we try to justify or vindicate ourselves?
We go through many hard times in Following Christ (1Pt5:10; Jn16:33; Mt10:28)
In honesty doing what is right, knowing we are doing what is right may seem hard, it may seem difficult, but know the reproaches of the world fell on Christ. He already took them on for us. Ours are just temporary. Look what Peter said.
10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
That is because what Jesus told the apostles
33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
Don’t take the reproaches we go through lightly; the ones the world casts on us for Jesus sake. For there is nothing they can do against the child for God. They may kill the body but cannot kill the soul!
28 “Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

5 Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, 6 that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
God gives what to do what (vv.5-6)?

So that, with one mind- may glorify God
Paul uses this in the form of a prayer, so that the Holy Spirit must be involved on the inside, it is the work of the Holy Spirit.
Oftentimes we are moving at the speed of the world and God moves at a different speed. He wants us to slow down and enjoy the ride. His purposes are not the worlds.
God’s delays are not his denials He has a purpose in every delay.
We need to love with patience all of God’s people. God is patient with us, was patient with us, so be patient with others, they may not think, talk, act like us, we didn’t either.
May the Lord of all comfort and patience teach us through the power of the Holy Spirit to be patient with His plan. We think He should hurry up, we beg Him to hurry up. Yet, He has a plan, a purpose for His people and we need to let Him work it out in His timing knowing He knows best.
As a reminder from last week, what is the goal of this (v.6)?

The unity of our thinking and our speech does not mean robotic does not mean uniformity, but it does mean the same message “Jesus Christ and Him crucified” (1Cor2:2)

That now brings us to the last part of this section

We have talked about care for others
We have talked about love for others in general, but look at these verses again and lets see what more we can learn
7 Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. 8 For I tell you that Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show God’s truthfulness, in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs,
Welcome as Christ welcome you - why? for the glory of God
Christ came as a servant, as a confirmation of the promises given to the Jews
9 and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, “Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles, and sing to your name.”
Promises given to the Jews, in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for His mercy
Wait, Jews praise among the Gentiles?
49 Therefore I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the Gentiles, And sing praises to Your name.
10 And again it is said, “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people.” 11 And again, “Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles, and let all the peoples extol him.”
Gentiles rejoice with all God’s people. Remember two people were made into one, the barrier wall was broken down Eph2:14.
Everyone joins today to extol, lift His name in praise!
12 Again Isaiah says, “There shall come the root of Jesse, And He who arises to rule over the Gentiles, In Him shall the Gentiles hope.”
From the Root of Jessie all the way to Jesus to (14 from David to exile; 14 from exile to Jesus) Jesus is the hope of the Gentiles, is our hope.
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
Remember back in chapter 14 we were talking about Christian liberties. Matters of conscience. This goes with between the Gentiles and the Jews too and that seems to be what Paul was pointing out here too in using the things written before and quoting O.T. passages here.
So, look back where we started
1 Those of us who are strong and able in the faith need to step in and lend a hand to those who falter, and not just do what is most convenient for us. Strength is for service, not status.
so may we conclude with another way of looking at
13 Oh! May the God of great hope fill you up with joy, fill you up with peace, so that your believing lives, filled with the life-giving energy of the Holy Spirit, will brim over with hope!
