What do I believe God wants them to know? That we are to make disciples anywhere and every where and it is a process
Why? It connects people to God and grows their relationship with God and gives them life
What do I believe God wants them do? Makes disciples and be a witness
Why? it connects people to God and grows their faith
ME/WE
In the scriptures we see there there different postures that God call us too.
We spent the first quarter of the year talking about one of those postures, which was
What was that posture? (sit down)...(in the midst of your life and busyness to sit with Jesus)
WHY? It is during the sitting at Jesus’ feet that Jesus pours into us ONE RENEW us, LOVE on us, TEACH us, ENCOURAGE us
We are called to be MARYS in a MARATHA WORLD…MARTHA WAS TOO BUSY WITH STUFF TO SIT AT THE FEET OF JESUS
Another posture we see IN THE SCRIPTURE WE, ONE OF THE PLACES WE SEE IT IS IN PSALM 23:2
He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.
WE ARE TO REST....6 DAYS WE WORK…ON THE 7TH WE REST
SO OUR BODIES CAN RENEW, REJUNIVATE, WORSHIP
ANOTHER IS TO LAY DOWN AND WORSHIP…FALL PROSTRATE…THAT IS WHAT THE WORD MEANS
ANOTHER ONE IS TO STAND ON THE PROMISES OF GOD....STAND ON THE ROCK.... “ON CHRIST THE SOLID ROCK I STAND ALL OTHER GROUND IS SINKING SAND”
WE CAN STATE MORE…BUT NOW I WANT TO TURN TO A POSTURE THAT GOD US TO THAT WE SEE THROUGH OUT SCRIPTURE AND IN JESUS’ LAST WORDS ON EARTH TO HIS DISCIPLES.
WHAT IS THE POSITION AND POSTURE that sometimes the Lord calls us to? GO
We see this with Abraham....leave your home country…where to???....to the land that I will show you
We see this with Moses.....leave Midian and go back to Egypt and deliver you people
We see this with Esther....for such a time as this you are to go to king Xerxes and seek the protection and salvation of the nation of Israel, save them from annihilation
Some of us have experiences like this: not identical, but places God has call you to go.
Leave your job to another job
Move
Leave that relationship
This is a calling GO
This is good but today we are not going to park there…we are going to park on a general/universal calling of GO that gives to all of us at any time.
It is does not happen at a random place or time
It is something that is so foundational to the church and it is also easy to go off track and not do it
WE HAVE SEEN IT GET OFF TRACK DURING THE CHURCH GROWTH MOVEMENT, THE MEGA CHURCH MOVEMENT WE HAVE EXPERIENCED FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF DECADES
THE FOCUS WAS LARGE CHURCH ATTENDANCE....THAT IS NOT BAD, RIGHT?
BUT WE HAVE DONE IT A COST OF STOPPING DOING OF THE MAIN THINGS THE CHURCH IS CALLED TO DO....WHICH IS MAKE DISCIPLES WHO MAKE DISICIPLES
We read about it in Matt 28:16-20
Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them.
And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted.
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Some doubted....Jesus appearing to you after the resurrection is something totally unexpected....it shows the realness of the disciples…they had struggles just like us.
All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me: What I am going to say has been authorized by our Father....These Words I am going to say have God’s stamp of approval.

DID YOU SEE WHAT JESUS LAST WORDS ON EARTH AS A HUMAN ARE TO US?

THIS WORD IS NOT GO IF YOU FEEL LIKE IT, GO IF YOU WANT TO, GO WHEN THE TIMING IS PERFECT

IT IS NOT OPTIONAL,
WHAT ARE YOU TO GO TO DO?
MAKE DISCIPLES…OF WHO? JESUS
WAIT…WAIT…WAIT....Is this not just for the disciples back then, not us now....they are to make disciples and we are the fruit of their labor....praise Jesus
OR IT IS FOR THE PASTOR TO DO
NO....we are disciples OF WHO JESUS.....JESUS ARE TO MAKE DISCIPLES who are to make disciples
WE ARE TO MAKE DISCIPLES WHO MAKE DISCIPLES
GOD DIDN’T CALL YOU OUT OF DARKNESS INTO TO LIGHT…INTO A ROYAL PRIESTHOOD TO LAY AROUND 24/7…HE CALLED YOU TO GO
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
TO OFTEN FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF DECADES, IN THE CHURCH GROWTH MOVEMENT, WE SHIFTED THE CHURCH IN THE WEST HAS FUNCTIONED AS SPECTATORS/FANS AT A SPORTING EVENT
60,000 PEOPLE ARE WATCHING A 100 PEOPLE DO THE WORK AND CHEERING THEM ON OR BOING THEM
WE ARE NOT CALLED TO BE FANS OF JESUS, CHEERING HIM ON, WE ARE CALLED TO BE DISIPLES WHO MAKE DISCIPLES
HOW DO WE DO THIS?
TEACHING THEM TO OBSERVE ALL I HAVE COMMANDED THEM
As you are being discipled teach them what you know....I love this....Jesus says TEACH THEM what you know....
He doesn’t say wait until you get your degree in BIBLE
He doesn’t say wait until you have walked with God for 10 years
He says teach what you have been taught....
An illustration I heard a pastor say once that I believe is good is....
Fill your cup up with Jesus and POUR out what you known
Fill up POUR out.
Someone is afraid we teach them we are not fear that God is with us.
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
For us to teach this things we need to be taught...
THIS IS also means WE NEED TO BE DISCIPLED TOO
We cannot teach very much if we have not been with the teacher
WHERE ARE WE TO TEACH THIS THINGS?
FORMAL BIBLE STUDIES, AT CHURCH ONLY
ANYWHERE AND EVERYWHERE
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.
You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
DO YOU SEE WHAT THE WORD OF GOD SAYS....WE ARE TO CONTINUALLY TEACH OUR CHILDERN OR FRIENDS ANYWHERE AND EVERYWHERE
I WANT TO FOCUS ON CHILDREN AND PARENTS…PARENTS YOU NUMBER #1 DISCIPLES ARE YOUR CHILDREN....THEY ARE THE BLESSINGS GOD HAS PUT INTO YOUR LIFE FOR YOU TO DISCIPLE, TO TEACH.
THERE IS A MOVEMENT THAT STARTED A COUPLE DECADES AGO IN THE WORLD IN THE CHURCH...
PARENTS STARTED TALKING A HANDS OFF APPROACH AND LET CHILDREN FIGURE THINGS OUT ON THEIR OWN
I DID YOUTH MINISTRY FOR OVER A DECADE AND I RAN INTO THIS MORE AND MORE
IT IS NOT ABOUT FORCING THE SCRIPTURES IT IS ABOUT TEACHING THE SCIRPTURES…THEIR IS LIFE IN THE SCRIPTURES…AND GUESS WHAT KIDS ARE LIKE US WE WANT TO REBEL AT TIMES…
FULL OF LOVE, GRACE, AND TRUTH.
AND it is IMPORTANT TO KNOW THAT DISCIPLESHIP AND TEACHING IS MORE THAN JUST TEACHING
OUR WESTERN MINDSET LIKES TO MAKE DISCIPLESHIP AND TEACHING ALL VERBAL
CLASSROOM
BUT THE REALITY IS MORE IS CAUGHT THAN TAUGHT
ANYBODY BROWNS FANS IN THE ROOM? ANYBODY DISCIPLE SOMEONE HOW TO BE A BROWN’S FAN?
HOW DO YOU DISCIPLE THEM? JUST VERBALLY TEACH THEM
YOU SHOW THEM WHAT WEAR
THE SONGS TO SING “HERE WE GO BROWNIES HERE WE GO...
YOU SHOW THEM THAT WHAT TIME WORSHIP IS ON SUNDAY
YOU SHOW THEM RADIO STATIONS AND PODCAST YOU CAN LISTEN TO TO HEAR MORE ABOUT THE BROWNS
YOU ARE SHOWING THEM TO IMMIATE YOU
IN SIMILAR MANNER THIS IS WHAT DISICPLESHIP IS IN OUR FAITH
Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.
ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL WAYS WE DISCIPLE SOMEONE IS BY BEING LIKE JESUS
OFTEN TIMES MORE IS CAUGHT THAN TAUGHT
YOU DISCIPLE PEOPLE BY YOUR ACTIONS
Negative side: man that guy says he is a Christian but he flies off the handle all the time....what gets drowned out by his actions his words
GOOD EXAMPLE:
There are others like SISTER TRISH who doesn’t always have to say much but the love of Jesus ozoes off of her
ACTIONS can speak louder than words
How are your actions?
PROCESS:
It is much like the gym.....it is slow steady growth over time....
WHY IS THIS SO IMPORTANT
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
YOU ARE DICIPLING SOMONE INTO LIFE ETERNAL AND LIFE NO
“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.
For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
WHO ARE YOU DISCIPLING? HOW IS THAT GOING?
parents who well are you doing at discipling your kids
WHO IS DISCIPLING YOU? JESUS OR SOMEONE ELSE
WHO DISCIPLED YOU TO BE WHO YOU ARE TODAY? WOULD YOU THANK THEM?
REMEMBER IN THIS WORK THE LORD IS WITH YOU
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
