Our foundation Scripture is Matthew 28:18-19
Matthew 28:18–19 NASB95
18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
Last week we added two more pieces to our Discipleship series
A Disciples Core Value is Love
Scripture says in 1 Tim 1:5, “the goal of our instruction is love...”
It is our bottom line.
Love God ( it places your affection on the creator first. - it puts you in proper alignment) Q if God isn’t first then you are probably first. So you become s God and that puts you out of alignment.
Salvation puts you back on course - It puts you back in relationship with God. It is Gods divine order. It allows you personally to receive blessings straight from the blessor.
Mark 12:30–31 ESV
30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
Love your Neighbor
Romans 13:8–10 ESV
8 Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
Love your Family
Husband Love your wife as Christ loved the church.
Don’t exasperate your kids. Don’t push them to the limit of breaking
Love in present tense - Not just the thought of tomorrow but love them in the present - what they are going through today and the very near future ( like tomorrow)
Love the Brethren
1 Peter 1:22 NLT
22 You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart.
I think this is one of the toughest. It is very easy to allow others to get under your skin. You have to learn to let things go.
Paul had to do that with Mark. With the heart of Barnabas the ministry was able to go forward.
Loving your Enemies.
Luke 6:27–28 ESV
27 “But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.
Title - Motivated for Change
How many of you enjoyed the movie - Jesus Revolution - we showed it on Wednesday. I found it very convicting and challenging ..........
We are commanded to do one more thing
GO
Your Christian faith is made up of two parts
What you believe
What you do with what you believe
YOU ARE COMMANDED TO GO
Mark 16:15 ESV
15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.
WHY
WHY do we do what we do ?
Answer - There is no better feeling than to be found if you are lost. or rescued if your hurt There is no better feeling than a bottle of water if your parched
Aaron Ralston – Hiker in Utah who had his arm trapped for 127 hours in Utah.
(by this point, he had lost 40 pounds, including 25% of his blood volume) He had to cut off his own arm and hike 6 miles before coming across so other hikers
LK 19:10 – People are LOST
Luke 19:10 NASB95
10 “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
We live in a lost world. People for the most part are in survival mode. Without God you are on your own and your intellect will only take you so far.
Matt 9:35-36COMPASSION
Matthew 9:35–36 NASB95
35 Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness. 36 Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd.
People are DECEIVED
Colossians 2:8 NASB95
8 See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.
People are believing vain philosophies – and dead religions – We believe Jesus is the way the truth and the life and no ones is going to make it but thru Christ Jesus.
2. YOU ARE CALLED
Matthew 5:14 – You are to bring light ( MSG)
Matthew 5:14 NASB95
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;
14-16 “Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.
Col 1:27 – You are to bring hope ( NIV)
Colossians 1:27 NASB95
27 to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
27 To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
1John 5:12 – You are to bring life ( Message )
1 John 5:12 NASB95
12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
11-12 This is the testimony in essence: God gave us eternal life; the life is in his Son. So, whoever has the Son, has life; whoever rejects the Son, rejects life.
You are Competent
You have what it takes !!!
You have overcome the world, flesh and the demonic realm
You have two responsibilities
LIVE IT
TELL IT
ISAIAH 6:8-9
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”
And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
If you are not motivated you are struggling in one of three areas
1. Sin
2. We don’t believe the importance of the Gospel
3. We have lost the joy of your salvation – PS 51:12-13
4. We struggle with fear
CONCLUSION
Sometimes going is “opening the doors.”
Sometimes going is saying “talk to me.”
Sometimes going is “being.”
Sometimes going is , fellowship, ministry, then belief. Not presentation, belief then fellowship
Sometimes going is “taking a risk on someone”
