HAVE YOU EVER FELT LIKE YOU DIDN’T HAVE WHAT YOU NEEDED?
Forgot something — Missing something important
This happens to me every time I travel… — Toothbrush — Contacts — Pillow — Phone charger
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE YOU’RE MISSING SOMETHING MORE IMPORTANT?
Able to start business — Parent those kids — Beat addiction — Grow relationship with — Maybe you feel like you don’t have what it takes for God to love you…
ENNEAGRAM 4 — MISSING SOMETHING IMPORTANT THAT EVERYONE ELSE HAS
I learned though that everyone has a deficiency — Even if they don’t realize it.
ELISHA IS ABOUT TO MEET A WOMAN
This happens right after they dig ditches — right after this passage Elisha helps a rich woman — But right here he finds time for a woman who is missing a lot and has a big need.
2 Kings 4:1 CSB
1 One of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant, my husband, has died. You know that your servant feared the Lord. Now the creditor is coming to take my two children as his slaves.”
She lost her husband — now a creditor is coming for his money
2 Kings 4:2 CSB
2 Elisha asked her, “What can I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” She said, “Your servant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.”
Isn’t it funny how when life get’s bad we forget what we DO have? — We overlook what we do have because we are so focused on what we don’t have.
Focused on the qualities and talents we wish we had — What we wish we were able to do THAT WE DON’T SEE WHAT WE HAVE — God so often wants to use that thing in your life that you call insignificant to impact your life — all she had was a jar of oil
We tend to compare jars though don’t we? Like maybe you want this growing relationship with God. And you if you play the comparison game, you’ll think “of course so and so has a great relationship with God she’s a stay at home mom so she can just pray and read God’s word 24 /7 — I DON’T HAVE ANY TIME — But you can read God’s word on the toilet…
Of course they have a good marriage look at how much money they have — Our marriage would be great too if we could go on vacation all the time — Of course God is using them look at their social media following — ETC.
GOD’S NOT LOOKING FOR ABILITY GOD IS LOOKING FOR AVAILABILITY. COME ON IS ANYONE THANKFUL THAT GOD DOESN’T NEED ME TO BE ANYTHING OTHER THAN WHAT HE MADE ME TO BE?
2 Kings 4:3–4 CSB
3 Then he said, “Go out and borrow empty containers from all your neighbors. Do not get just a few. 4 Then go in and shut the door behind you and your sons, and pour oil into all these containers. Set the full ones to one side.”
YEAH… THAT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE… Just… keep pouring out what little oil you have and somehow that’s gonna be enough.
Isn’t it hard to keep trusting and believing God when it feels like you don’t have anything left? When you keep running on empty? Have you ever gone through a time where it felt like you were missing something you needed?
And she’s told just use that little that you have… and it will be what you need eventually.
HOW CAN I BE HAPPY ABOUT WHAT IM MISSING?
2 Corinthians 12:9–10 CSB
9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me. 10 So I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and in difficulties, for the sake of Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
MY WEAKNESS, WHAT IM MISSING JUST MEANS GOD HAS MORE ROOM TO SHOW OFF!
YOU CAN’T SEE GOD PROVIDE IF THERE’S NOTHING THAT NEEDS TO BE PROVIDED. YOU CAN’T SEE GOD MAKE A WAY IF THERE’S NOT A WAY THAT NEEDS TO BE MADE.
EVERY TIME GOD WANT’S TO DO SOMETHING WE HAVE A PART TO PLAY. REMEMBER WE TALKED LAST WEEK FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD WE HAVE A PART TO PLAY
What I have is all I need for God to do what He needs to do but I gotta WORK IT — Look at your neighbor and tell them YOU GOTTA WORK IT
I feel the spirit of missy elliot...
IT’S NOT WHAT YOU HAVE… IT’S WHAT YOU DO WITH WHAT YOU HAVE
There’s people with all the money in the world to go on crazy vacations that have the worst marriages in the world. People with all the free time that are never in God’s word. It’s not about how much you have it’s who you’re trusting with what you do have.
2 Kings 4:5–7 CSB
5 So she left. After she had shut the door behind her and her sons, they kept bringing her containers, and she kept pouring. 6 When they were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another container.” But he replied, “There aren’t any more.” Then the oil stopped. 7 She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go sell the oil and pay your debt; you and your sons can live on the rest.”
GOD PROVIDED EVERYTHING SHE NEEDED BY USING WHAT LITTLE SHE HAD
1.REALIZE WHAT YOU HAVE
Philippians 4:19 (CSB) — 19 And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
You have everything you need to take the first step.
What you have right now isn’t the result… thats not how it works. You have what you need for the first step.
2. DO WHAT GOD SAYS
James 1:22 (CSB) — 22 But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
3.SEE WHAT GOD DOES THROUGH YOU
Matthew 7:7–11 (CSB) — 7 “Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 9 Who among you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him.
