Introduction:
What does it take for someone to become a “Jesus follower of faith that expands God’s kingdom.”
That is the mission statement of Reliant: Producing Jesus follower of faith that expands God’s kingdom.”
With all the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs in our community the first step would be for us to express the love and concern of the Lord. When Jesus went from town to town not only did he tell them that he was the Messiah but he expressed God’s love through healing and care.
We must be careful as a society and especially as the church that we don’t get so selfish that we are unconcerned with the need of those around us.
After the day of Pentecost the disciples didn’t walk through the streets speaking in different languages to share their message. As we will see in Acts 3, they began ministering to people right where they were.
Biblical Truth:
Acts 3:1–6 ESV
1 Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. 2 And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple. 3 Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms. 4 And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” 5 And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. 6 But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!”
Transition:
How many times had Jesus passed by this man as he went into the temple. I would imagine he never asked Jesus to heal him. He was hoping for money to solve his problem of the day. He needed some food and water.
Money is not God’s commodity! When Jesus needed to pay taxes he said, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
We use money to cover up the real needs that we have.
Physical need like food and clothing and shelter when God has created a world that provides all these things. We have corrupted that system and charge people for what God has created.
Emotional needs like mental wellness or even purpose and fulfilment, but we think we can buy happiness and contentment.
Spiritual needs like salvation and oneness with God, but we have turned blessing into money. People are taught that if they serve God he will bless them with money and things.
Why do we prefer man-made money when we could have the Creator of all things? ;.;.
/
In the broken system we live in money is necessary but it’s not the main thing as this broken down man would soon discover.
What he needed was a friend!

3 Types of Friends for Spiritual Healing:

A friend that helps you.

Acts 3:2 ESV
2 And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple.

A friend you look up too.

Acts 3:4–5 ESV
4 And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” 5 And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them.

A friend Jesus uses to heal you.

Acts 3:6–8 ESV
6 But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” 7 And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. 8 And leaping up, he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.

Healing in the name of Jesus

Speaking the truth of Jesus into your life

Speaking the authority of Jesus into your life.

Offering the right hand of strength

Lending your strength to the weak until they are strong.

Watching God do miracles in the lives of others.

Walking with you after the fact

Walking in fellowship as believers.

Worshiping and Praising God together.

3 Evidences of a Changed Life

Acts 3:9–10 ESV
9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God, 10 and recognized him as the one who sat at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, asking for alms. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

A broken life made whole

He was changed on the outside: He could walk on his own.

He was changed on the inside: He was praising God.

His location changed from outside the temple to inside the temple.

A restored life witnessing of God’s glory

Acts 3:11–16 ESV
11 While he clung to Peter and John, all the people, utterly astounded, ran together to them in the portico called Solomon’s. 12 And when Peter saw it he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk? 13 The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant Jesus, whom you delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him. 14 But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, 15 and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. 16 And his name—by faith in his name—has made this man strong whom you see and know, and the faith that is through Jesus has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all.

A repentant life toward God

Acts 3:17–18 ESV
17 “And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. 18 But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled.

God isn’t concerned with the ignorance of your past, but He is concerned with the direction of your future.

They had ignored the prophets God sent.

The killed the Author of life, Jesus.

Acts 3:19–21 ESV
19 Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, 20 that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, 21 whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago.

Repentance is the key that unlocks your forgiveness.

In our 180° discipleship, our first goal is a repentant heart.

“Repentance is not sinless perfection but a desire and direction.”
