Continue in Service Continue in Prayer
Have we been sleeping? While we should be in prayer serving the Lord have we allowed the comfort of our bodies tell us whether or not we are going to be serving the Lord, praying , attending?
Mark 14:32-42 (KJV 1900)
32 And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray. 33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy; 34 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch. 35 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. 36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt. 37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour? 38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. 39 And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words. 40 And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him. 41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42 Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.
1. Jesus was in great pain.
a. The messiah, the healer was in need of prayer he took 3 of his disciples, his friends to pray with him.
Psalm 88:1-3 (KJV 1900)
1 O Lord God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee: 2 Let my prayer come before thee: Incline thine ear unto my cry; 3 For my soul is full of troubles: And my life draweth nigh unto the grave.
b. Peter James and john all saw the pain their master was in, they all had the opportunity to pray with Him. They were there at the mount of transfiguration.
c. Jesus told them his soul was sorrowful unto death He needed them to pray for Him!
2. Jesus was truly in Pain!
a. Peter, James and John had a chance to serve Jesus in a real and mighty way!
b. Have you ever had the chance to pray with someone in a time they needed prayer only to mess up
c. The disciple were found sleeping with no explanation
3. Jesus said to pray lest they enter temptation!
a. The days and time we live in now are no different, full of evil!
b. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak!
Hebrews 10:23-25 (KJV 1900)
23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) 24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
