Somewhere else.

Jesus went from the Gadarenes an area just a days journey when at that place He cast out the demons called Legion, then to Decapolis which were 10 cities in northern Palestine. A woman with an issue of blood touched the hem of His garment and was healed! A leader of the synagogue went to Jesus and said his daughter was sick unto death and begged him to heal her; even when word came back that she was dead Jesus said don’t be afraid just believe He went in and healed her. After doing all this Jesus went to his hometown! And then chapter 6 begins. . .

Mark 6:1-6KJV

1 And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him. 2 And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. 4 But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. 5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. 6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

Nazareth was a town not unlike our own in many ways. It was small, not a large metropolis and even though they might have heard of the wonderful things of Christ still He was only a “Nazarene” it was said nothing good comes from that area so they didn’t look for much! They didn’t expect anything.

Verse 2 When the sabbath came he began to teach in the synagogue. And they simply said where does he get off doing this stuff and teaching?

Verse 3 Isn’t this the Carpenter?

Jesus was not what they expected they didn’t look up to him they remembered who He was the one who built the three legged stool maw milked the goat on! They remembered the gossip over the years, they remembered the problems his family had they were poor people they weren’t expecting a savior and that is our problem today! We don’t expect anything.

Miracles happen somewhere else, good things happen to other people they weren’t expecting or hoping for anything!

Verse 4 a prophet isn’t respected in his own home!

We call evangelists in from miles away and pay them great amounts. We respect prophets from other areas and lands but anybody from here is nobody!

Why? We don’t come expecting from people we remember from our childhood. We forget that they don’t come in their own power but in the power of God!

Many times we think good things happen to other people in other lands just not here!

Verse 5-6 Jesus marveled because of their unbelief.

He wasn’t proud of it, He was stunned by it! How can such wonderful things happen to so many yet they still won’t believe?

We need to preach and believe strongly in faith! Never let go no matter how hopeless things seem!

Rev. David Wilkerson wrote that we must remind ourselves daily that “I have an enemy – a liar and seducer – who is out to devour me. There are three lies that he commonly uses to bring down the Christian.

Lie One “You are making no spiritual progress.”

No matter what you have done, how far you have gone, how much you have prayed Satan says you ain’t getting nowhere others are passing you by!

Lie Two “You are too weak for spiritual warfare”

Satan whispers “your’re worn out, too tired, you don’t have the strength to go on fighting”

Daniel 7:25NASB95

25     ‘He will speak out against the Most High and wear down the saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make alterations in times and in law; and they will be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time.

Lie Three “God is not with you, you have grieved Him somehow”

You can’t seem to put your finger on what you did but for some reason you think your all alone. Many wander off and are never seeen again because of their depression. But we need to remember what was said to Gideon!

Judges 6:12KJV

12 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.
