The ministry is often likened to one boring old preacher standing up behind a pulpit, holding too long, and saying too little but using too many words to say it.

This isn’t the ministry at all! You can all be ministers for the Lord if you will let him use you!

2 Timothy 2:1-8 (KJV)

Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. 3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. 5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully. 6 The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits. 7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things. 8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:

The ministry may be one of many types or kinds that God calls you into –

Ephesians 4:11-12KJV

11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

1.   The minister may be a teacher!

a.       While a student Timothy was taught many things by Paul v1-2

b.      As a minister or pastor he is to teach others

2 Timothy 2:24 (KJV)

24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

c.       He must also train up faithful men to teach others as well!

1 Corinthians 4:2 (KJV)

2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

Titus 1:7-10 (KJV)

7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; 8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; 9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. 10 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:

2.   The minister must be a soldier!

a.       Not a soldier in that we fight amongst ourselves but a soldier of the Lords army!

Ephesians 4:31 (KJV)

31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

b.      Not a soldier who is on “stand  by” but ready to fight now!

1 Corinthians 9:7 (KJV)

7 Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?

c.        Not a soldier that is always worried about his own problems of this life! But one whose eyes are looking to the commander!

2 Peter 2:20 (KJV)

20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

3.   The minister must be an Athlete!

a.       An athlete who is constantly striving for the crown!

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (KJV)

24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. 25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. 26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: 27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

b.       An Athlete keeps his body under subjection. V27

c.       An athlete doen’t see how far he/she is from the end he only sees the task and the trophy!

4.   The minister will be a Farmer!

a.       Even Paul was a planter of churches!

1 Corinthians 3:6-9 (KJV)

6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. 7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. 8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. 9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.

b.       We should also as workers in the field as church members be in prayer for more to help!

Luke 10:2 (KJV)

2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

c.        Keep our eyes on the work at hand!

Luke 9:62 (KJV)

62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Don’t ask God to wait for you to get your life together if he calls you answer!

Matthew 22:14 (KJV)

14 For many are called, but few are chosen.
