Hosea 11:1 NIV
“When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.

God tenderly cares for His children.

As we open up our Bibles this morning we see the first verse of chapter 11.

God loving allows us to leave.

We know this also to be true by Luke 15 and the story of the prodigal sons. Some leave God physically and others may stay close but still are not in relationship with him.

God is not like us!

This is good news. Any analogy we make of God, like the theme of parenting will fall short of completeness because God is different. He is unique.

Egypt is a place of transition.

Egypt was a transition place for the nation of Israel where they were protected for a time.

Egypt became a place of bondage.

Egypt became a symbol of being in chains and bondage.

Jesus fulfills the story of Israel.

Jesus shows what faithfulness looks like. He is our example. Matthew uses the first verses of our chapter.

Jesus is calling you out of “Egypt”.

Will you come?

The way we live matters.

We cannot praise God with our mouths and live as if we are Lord.
Hosea 11:9 (NIV)

the Holy One among you.
