Matthew 6:1–4 KJV 1900
Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

Avoid The Boasting

The idea of Almsgiving is one of showing your righteousness, or blessedness to others in a way that glorifies God. So how can you give God the glory in secret?
1 John 2:29 KJV 1900
If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.
1 Corinthians 9:18 KJV 1900
What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

Give Quietly

Luke 11:41 KJV 1900
But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.
The desire to impress an onlooking group of people can be strong. Even Peter fell pray to this kind of pull.
Galatians 2:13 KJV 1900
And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.
John 5:44 KJV 1900
How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?

Praise The Reward Openly

Your God that see’s everything will reward the in full measure.
Matthew 5:12 KJV 1900
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
