John17:1 “Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You,”

John 17:1-5 Jesus prays for Himself

Lifted His eyes, addressee the Father, aware of the moment in the Plan

Glory - it’s the chief end of all things

John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Act 7:55 “But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God,”

John 17:4 “I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.” Jesus glorifies the Father with souls

Shechinah glory Ex 40:38 “For the cloud of the Lord was above the tabernacle by day, and fire was over it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.” Nu 9:15 “Now on the day that the tabernacle was raised up, the cloud covered the tabernacle, the tent of the Testimony; from evening until morning it was above the tabernacle like the appearance of fire.” 1 KI 8:10-11 “And it came to pass, when the priests came out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the Lord, so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord.” 2 Chr 7:1

Transfiguration - Lk 9:28-29 “Now it came to pass, about eight days after these sayings, that He took Peter, John, and James and went up on the mountain to pray. As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe became white and glistening.”

John 17:6-19 Jesus Prays for His Disciples (The 11 Apostles)

Jesus has manifested the Father name (character to them)

:6-8 Has revealed the Father as the source of Jesus, Word, Glory

Not of the world

John 17:9-14 Keep 3 x’s “in name” from the evil one Kept in

Protected because

Glory - Father and Son glorified in them

Jesus is leaving, they are staying - oneness will be challenged, Name unifies

Jesus keeps us, protected (except Judas used his OSN)

He is leaving world - wants joy

Gave us the Word - world hates us - no longer “of the world” v:14

John 17:15 “I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.” prays for protection from “ek” the evil one

John 17:16-19 “They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.” Set apart from the world to the word (drop the “l” be in the word not the world)

They were to leave the glory of the “church” for the ministry in the world - to reveal the glory (be transformed - show Jesus burning in you)

John 17:20-26 Jesus Prays for All Believers

For those who “will” believe

For Unity - John 17:20-23 ““I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.”

Unity - oneness “in” purpose for word to see Christ in us - love

John17:24-26 ““Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.””

Our future place with Christ to behold glory!

Ultimate sanctification - Eternal love

Share glory - Declares Name - Define

1Cor 15:40 “There are also celestial bodies and terrestrial bodies; but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.”

2 Pe 1:4 “by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

κοινωνός, one who takes part in someth. with someone, companion, partner, sharer.
