This Week’s Theme: A God Who is Unimpeachable
Word for the Week is God’s Judgment: God judges the world by identifying and condemning sin and by vindicating and rewarding the righteous. God exercises temporal judgment on the world and on his people; final judgment will take place when Jesus Christ returns.
Memory verse: Jeremiah 17:10 “I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings.”
Essence of the Text in a Sentence: The LORD corrected the children of Israel through Ezekiel concerning a false proverb they stated as fact.
Sermon Proposition: A saint’s should know that God dishes out consequences based on the individual’s sin and not their parent’s sin.
Sermon Objective: I want those in attendance to look for ways that their conversation and or conduct communicates that they are reaping what their parents sowed and repent.
Sermon Passage: Ezekiel 18:1-4
Ezekiel 18:1–4 NKJV
The word of the Lord came to me again, saying, “What do you mean when you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying: ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, And the children’s teeth are set on edge’? As I live,” says the Lord God, “you shall no longer use this proverb in Israel. “Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father As well as the soul of the son is Mine; The soul who sins shall die.

They saw themselves as the children. It is their fathers fault.
Ezekiel 2:3 NKJV
And He said to me: “Son of man, I am sending you to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against Me; they and their fathers have transgressed against Me to this very day.

THEY BROKE TRUST WITH GOD BECAUSE
THEY OWED HIM HONESTY BUT THEY GAVE HIM DECEIT
BEING Crafty and Cunning
Shifty and Shady
THEY BROKE TRUST WITH GOD BECAUSE
THEY OWED HIM PURITY BUT THEY GAVE HIM IMPURITY

II. FAIR STATUTE

Ezekiel 18:3–4 NKJV

RECEIVE OR REJECT
ACCEPT OR ABANDON
A righteous man (18:5–9): He will surely live.
A righteous man’s unrighteous son (18:10–13): The righteous man’s son will surely die and take full blame.
An unrighteous man’s righteous son (18:14–19): The son will not die because of his father’s sins.
A righteous man who becomes unrighteous (18:24, 26): He will die.
A unrighteous people who become righteous (18:21–23, 27–28): They will live.
WHAT IS GOD SAYING?
IT IS NOT SO MUCH HOW YOU START BUT IT IS HOW YOU FINISH
IF YOU FINISHED PRACTICING OR LIVING IN UNRIGHTEOUSNESS
You WILL Face the LORD
WHAT ARE YOU SAYING PREACHER?
Every Tub Must Sit On Its On Bottom
STAND ON YOUR OWN TWO FEET

III. FACING SINFULNESS

Ezekiel 18:30 NKJV
“Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways,” says the Lord God. “Repent, and turn from all your transgressions, so that iniquity will not be your ruin.
You must acknowledge that this is your fault.
YOU NEED TO
FACE YOUR FAULTS
Confront your Corruption
Work on your Wickedness
Acknowledge your Atrocities
Deal with your Disobedience
Tackle your Transgression
Why?
But some of you still want to challenge the judgment

A. CHALLENGE

1. Don’t Deny

Proverbs 28:13 NKJV
He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.

2. Don’t Distort

(the facts or get selective memory)

3. Don’t Deflect

(Seek to blame someone else)
Romans 14:12 NKJV
So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.
The blame rests on your shoulders.
You are the one who should carry the blame in this situation.
You need to concede and say
“I am the one who must shoulder the blame for this.”

B. CONCEDE

1. REPENTING OF IT

Ezekiel 18:30 NKJV
“Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways,” says the Lord God. “Repent, and turn from all your transgressions, so that iniquity will not be your ruin.
Repent (turn back to God)”
Ezekiel 18:21–23 NKJV
“But if a wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. None of the transgressions which he has committed shall be remembered against him; because of the righteousness which he has done, he shall live. Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?” says the Lord God, “and not that he should turn from his ways and live?
Ezekiel 18:30 NKJV
“Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways,” says the Lord God. “Repent, and turn from all your transgressions, so that iniquity will not be your ruin.
“and turn (away) from all your transgressions (Pesha: trespasses or breaking of trust with God or breaking of the covenant with God)”
Ezekiel 14:6 NKJV
“Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Repent, turn away from your idols, and turn your faces away from all your abominations.

2. REMOVING IT

Ezekiel 18:31 NKJV
Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die, O house of Israel?
“Cast away from you all the transgressions (trespasses or breaking of trust with God or breaking of the covenant with God) which you have committed (pasha: rebelled against the covenant and broke it),
Psalm 34:14 NKJV
Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it.
Isaiah 1:16–17 NKJV
“Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow.
“so that iniquity (crooked and perverse and depraved actions) will not be your ruin (means of stumbling or means of falling)”
God will judge the house of Israel, each person according to his ways
God called them to repent and turn from all their breaking of trust so that their crooked and perverse ways would not be their ruin.
Apply: God will judge Christians according to each persons ways.
Christians must turn from their sins and from their breaking of trust with the LORD because sin will ruin them.

3. RETRIEVING FROM GOD

Ezekiel 18:31 NKJV
Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die, O house of Israel?
and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit.
Psalm 51:10 NKJV
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Ezekiel 11:19 NKJV
Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh,
Jeremiah 32:39 NKJV
then I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear Me forever, for the good of them and their children after them.
