Introduction

Who of you can explain this verse unto me?
Jeremiah 29:11 KJV
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
At this point in time, the COI are in a bad way. They had sinned against God & would not hearken unto the voice of the prophets that He sent them, and so God brought them unto captivity by the hand of the Babylonians.
But in this passage of Scripture, God is trying to encourage the COI. He gives them instruction & in that instruction He utters this verse. And it’s in this verse that I want to share and show you how these words can apply to you.

I. You Have Potential

Potential (def) existing in Possibility
In Youth there is Potential
What I mean by that is that in you - there exists a possibility.
You see, you have not grown enough to become the totality to which you will become. (Some of you are still trying to grow your teeth) So what your life consists of right now is a tremendous amount of potential. The possibility to do great and mighty things!
I see before me the church of tomorrow
I see before me Preachers & Teachers, Doctors & Lawyers, Factory Workers - all living for the Lord and leading souls to Heaven! That’s the Potential that I see!
YOU have great potential to do great things for God!
You have Potential, because God has a Plan for you!

II. Because God has a Plan for You

Because You are On God’s Mind
Jeremiah 29:11 KJV
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
You are not forgotten by God! You are on God’s Mind!
I forget things… the older I get, the worse it gets. But know this: God has not forgotten you! You are created in the image of God - unique - special in every way!
You are on God’s Mind
Because God Desires Good for You
One of the most non-sensical truths found in the world today is the way they figure things.
They figure that God is out to get them & the world is their friend. They cast their affections on the things of this world and they ignore the God who truly loves them.
Know this - God has thoughts of peace for you, because God Loves you.
Jn. 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
God desires Good for you
Because God has a Purpose for You
God has a plan for your life. Whether you know what that plan is now or not, God surely has a plan for you!
This is the God we serve! This is the God we preach! A God who:
Has you on His Mind
Desires Good for you
Has a Plan for your Life
You see, YOU have potential, because God has a Plan for your life - But know this: It’s Determined by What you Do with Jesus

III. But it’s Determined by What you Do with Jesus

The Bible tells us: Jn. 1:1-4 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”
John 1:4 KJV
In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
What you Do with Jesus Determines Your ‘Forever Home
Each of you will live forever in one of two places - who can tell me what they are?
Heaven or Hell
Jesus said: Jn. 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
What you do with Jesus will determine where you spend eternity
What you Do with Jesus Determines the Realization of your Potential
His Life is our Light! It shows us the way! It reveals unto us the Path & Plan that He has for our Life! The only way to see the path is by the light that Christ provides.
So once you KNOW Jesus, if you STAY CLOSE to Jesus - the one who has you on His Mind, the one who desires peace for you - the one who has a plan for you - then you can reach your potential and turn the possibility into reality!
