1 Thessalonians 5:15-22 (KJV 1900)
15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. 16 Rejoice evermore. 17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 19 Quench not the Spirit. 20 Despise not prophesyings. 21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
V 15 – How should a Spirit filled believer live their life every day?
Spirit filled believers must react in a way different than unbelievers. Spirit filled believers should act in love, not react in anger. Tough and unfair situations are often the most effective witnessing opportunities.
a. Don’t render or payback evil for evil.
1 Peter 1:22 (ESV)
22 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart,
b. Even when you are near enemies.
Matthew 5:44 (KJV 1900)
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
c. Spirit filled believers increase in Love toward everyone!
1 Thessalonians 3:12 (KJV 1900)
12 And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:
V16 – Rejoice Always!
a. Spirit filled believers are full of joy!
Philippians 4:4 (KJV 1900)
4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
b. Don’t allow problems to dampen your joy!
Romans 12:12 (KJV 1900)
12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
V17, 18 – Pray without ever ceasing!
Men ought always to pray and never to faint!
Ye have not because ye ask not!
In everything give thanks!
V19 – Quench not the Spirit!
Many believers are guilty of that very deed. We must be filled with the Spirit we need to allow the Holy Spirit to change us use us and for others to see his presence in us!
Many churches have put out the fire of the Holy Spirit in the way they act the way they worship and the way they sound for fear of looking different!
Ephesians 4:30 (KJV 1900)
30 And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
There is a line that is drawn we can be on one side or the other. We can have the power of God on our side or against us what do you want?
Isaiah 63:8-10 (KJV 1900)
8 For he said, Surely they are my people, Children that will not lie: So he was their Saviour. 9 In all their affliction he was afflicted, And the angel of his presence saved them: In his love and in his pity he redeemed them; And he bare them, and carried them all the days of old. 10 But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: Therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them.
