Renewal of Vows

Dearly beloved:

We are gathered here in the sight of God and in the presence of these witnesses to reaffirm your vows in holy matrimony.

Marriage is a most solemn, sacred union into which you have entered. Sacred, because it binds you together in a relationship so close and so intimate that your entire future will be influenced by it. Yet in these times which we live, it is sadly forgotten, misused and many times abused.

I want to remind you both that in marriage there must be love without it there is no bond holding you together. We can find out what love is in 1 Corinthians 13:

Love is patient,

Love is kind,

It is never filled with jealous envy,

It is not boastful, nor anxious to impress,

It isn’t conceited, arrogant, or inflated with pride,

It doesn’t insist to have its own way,

Love isn’t touchy, fretful or resentful,

It doesn’t keep a record of evil done to it,

It ignores suffered wrong,

It rejoices when right and truth prevail,

It knows no limit of its endurance,

Its hope never fades,

It knows no end of its trust,

It is the one thing that will stand when all else has fallen!

Who gives this woman to renew her vows?

You, now voluntarily and completely surrender your lives in the interest of each other, belonging to each other, loving only each other, thinking of each other before yourselves. You will be one in mind, one in heart, and one in affection. If you are ready to accept each other again for the rest of your lives, and you wish to reaffirm the holy vows of matrimony, you may indicate it by joining your right hands.

Eddie, do you take this woman whose hand you hold to be your lawfully wedded wife, and do you promise in the presence of the Almighty God, and these witnesses that you will love her, care for her, honor and protect her; for richer and for poorer, in good times and bad, in sickness and in health; to love, honor and cherish till death do you part?

Tammy, do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband, and do you solemnly promise in the presence of the Almighty God, these witnesses to be unto him a loving faithful wife? Will you love and care for him; for richer for poorer, in good times and bad, in sickness and in health; will you love honor and obey him till death do you part?

(Ask him to place the ring on her left hand and repeat) with this ring I thee wed.

(Ask him to place the ring on her left hand and repeat) with this ring I thee wed.

In as much as these two have renewed their vows and have given proof thereof by the giving and receiving of rings.

I now pronounce that they are husband and wife. Eddie you may now kiss your bride.

Prayer.
