What is glory, what is God's glory, how important is it to God, and we should be more concerned with and motivated to glorifying Him than what is in it for us.

For Love or Glory

Last week - Unity in the church (Keystone specific)
This week - We can be unified to the same mission, but WHY do we care? Because God cares… OK, well, WHY does God care about this mission? What does this mission bring about?
Is God wanting more people to be saved OR is there another reason?
The question is worded wrong. Its not an OR question, HOWEVER, we often think one way or another about WHY God does what He does, why He cares about what He cares about. So… What does God care about.
Restoring the relationship between us and Him FOR the purpose of His glory.
God saves because He is worthy of being glorified.

‘Glory’ generally represents Heb. kāḇôḏ, with the root idea of ‘heaviness’ and so of ‘weight’ or ‘worthiness’. It is used of men to describe their wealth, splendour or reputation (though in the last sense kāḇôḏ is often rendered ‘honour’). The glory of Israel was not her armies but Yahweh (Je. 2:11). The word could also mean the self or soul (Gn. 49:6).

John 12:25–28 NASB95
25 “He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal. 26 “If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him. 27 “Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour. 28 “Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came out of heaven: “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.”
John 17:1–5 KJV 1900
1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: 2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. 3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. 4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. 5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
Isaiah 48:9–11 KJV 1900
9 For my name’s sake will I defer mine anger, And for my praise will I refrain for thee, That I cut thee not off. 10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction. 11 For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: For how should my name be polluted? And I will not give my glory unto another.
Glory to another: If isreal’s sin defeats the Lord’s purposes, then sin gets the glory, but if they remain in exile, the God’s of Babylon triumph. But neither of them will prevail!
What is God motivated by and what are we motivated by?
Who is the main character in the Bible? Is it a story about us or is it a story about God and what He has done?
What does it mean to be “glorified?” How do we do we participate in it?
God is WORTHY
God is LOVING
God is PATIENT
God is worthy and we are not
God is loving and we, of our own strength, are not
God is parient, and the only time we are pacient is when we are obedient to Him
We say we want what God wants.
Do we want His glory or our own?
We say He loves us, which is true. Do we reciprocate love to Him? He desires Glory through obedience. Are we being obedient to what He is calling us to do?
Romans 1:20–24 NASB95
20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. 24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.
Luke 12:2–5 NASB95
2 “But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. 3 “Accordingly, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed upon the housetops. 4 “I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do. 5 “But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who, after He has killed, has authority to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear Him!
Hebrews 4:13–15 NASB95
13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do. 14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.
Ezekiel 8:12 NASB95
12 Then He said to me, “Son of man, do you see what the elders of the house of Israel are committing in the dark, each man in the room of his carved images? For they say, ‘The Lord does not see us; the Lord has forsaken the land.’ ”
