- 2 Corinthians 6:11-18
2 Corinthians 6:11–18 (CSB)
11 We have spoken openly to you, Corinthians; our heart has been opened wide. 12 We are not withholding our affection from you, but you are withholding yours from us. 13 I speak as to my children; as a proper response, open your heart to us.
14 Do not be yoked together with those who do not believe. For what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness? 15 What agreement does Christ have with Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement does the temple of God have with idols? For we are the temple of the living God, as God said:
I will dwell
and walk among them,
and I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
17 Therefore, come out from among them
and be separate, says the Lord;
do not touch any unclean thing,
and I will welcome you.
18 And I will be a Father to you,
and you will be sons and daughters to me,
says the Lord Almighty.
- Come out and be Ye separate
“Come out” from among them and be ye separate.
The only way we can fulfill our Christian calling in this world is to become detached from this culture.
The system of the God of this world, the evil one, is designed to keep you:
plugged in,
included,
snared,
and trapped.
All the way everyday!
Even the banks, our politics, our entertainers, even those
who manufacture household goods are in on this set up.
Trying to entice you into buying their stuff;
By appealing to this bankrupt culture devoid of anything Godly.
Not only devoid, but downright hostile to anything Godly.
The biggest mistake we modern day Christians make is
Trying to convince ourselves we can maintain a life pleasing to God while walking in step with this culture.
- Friendship with the world becomes the enmity with God
We can’t , sorry!
James 4:4 (CSB)
4 You adulterous people! Don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? So whoever wants to be the friend of the world becomes the enemy of God.
We cannot have it both ways:
- God separates His people from the culture of the day
For this very reason we read in Scripture that God seeing the corrupt nature of the societies
Brought His chosen ministers out of the cultures of these respective days to do His work.
He took Enoch from the earth completely
He took Noah out of the culture of His time
He took Abraham from Ur of the Chaldeans
He took Lot from Sodom & Gomorrah
He took Joseph from His jealous brothers
He took Moses out of Egypt.
All the way through history, even up to Paul,
Whom He took from His beloved people the Jews and sent Him to us, who were gentiles.
This is why He says
2 Corinthians 6:17 (CSB)
17 Therefore, come out from among them
and be separate, says the Lord;
do not touch any unclean thing,
and I will welcome you.
The Greek Word, for Church, is Ekklisía from where we get the name for Solomon’s book Ecclesiastes and the Spanish word for church, Iglesia.
All these mean “Church” which means “The called out.” The separated
Ezekiel 20:34 (CSB)
34 I will bring you from the peoples and gather you from the countries where you were scattered, with a strong hand, an outstretched arm, and outpoured wrath.
Ezekiel 20:41 (CSB)
41 When I bring you from the peoples and gather you from the countries where you have been scattered, I will accept you as a pleasing aroma. And I will demonstrate my holiness through you in the sight of the nations.
You see, we who consider ourselves Christians should not be a part of this worlds culture.
By design or by default we are called out God,
By His sovereign hand He pulled each and everyone of us in here out from the culture of unbelief, lies, & agnosticism.
From which we live now into His service.
You cannot be a part of the world, and effectively serve God.
You just cant
History has shown us, God wants to be very clear who is who and what is what.
But why the separation?
God knows the heart of men, so doesn’t He already know Who loves Him and who doesn’t?
Yes, the separation is not for God to see, but For man to see.
So man would be without excuse.
“I didn’t know God,”
“I didn’t know anyone who believed”
“How could I have known?”
It is for Man to see the difference between a Godly life, and a wicked rebellious life.
When God made a covenant with Abraham, He separated His people from their neighbors.
But how did He do that?
By instituting the circumcision of His covenant people.
Then, He commanded them not to intermarry with uncircumcised people.
Today this is seen as an act of mutilation by many, but was a very clear sign to those off the day.
something was going on within the Hebrew nation
Another New Testament example is John the Baptist, says
Matthew 3:12 (CSB)
12 His winnowing shovel is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and gather his wheat into the barn. But the chaff he will burn with fire that never goes out.”
We are told Jesus will eventually separate His Sheep from the goats.
Matthew 25:32 (CSB)
32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate them one from another, just a
s a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
- The pandemic forced the wearing of masks
Because of this evil pandemic, the entire world was forced into wearing masks.
We are being threatened with having to wear masks all over again, if you believe what is broadcast as news anymore.
While we wear them, we don’t know who’s who anymore passing each other at the store and places.
With our masks on, we aren’t able to distinguish our differences anymore.
Make up is covered up, facial features are covered up.
We can’t tell each other apart anymore.
This is not new, unfortunately many of us Christians, don’t look any different from the world around us.
Equally hiding their sins under a mask, like Adam & Eve did with fig leaves.
It is like unrepentant sins are our new masks today.
- Repentance is like removing the mask
This is the reason for confession, to remove the mask and let it be seen, and forgiven.
You say, “Then we can’t have any fun.”
Consider the source of your desire for this worlds fun.
You come from this culture.
You are bathed in it,
you were nurtured in it,
you are surrounded by it.
You are dirty from wearing it,
you smell like it,
- Separate yourself from this world and sin
How do we get it off of us?
When you are dirty, or if you are around camp fire you smell like smoke etc.
What do you do to get rid of that smell?
You wash it off.
But regular soap and water can’t get this off
- Jesus is the only way to be cleansed from this world
You need to be washed by the blood of Jesus through His death burial & resurrection.
That’s the only way.
