He Alone is God

Isaiah 45:5–7 ESV
I am the Lord, and there is no other, besides me there is no God; I equip you, though you do not know me, that people may know, from the rising of the sun and from the west, that there is none besides me; I am the Lord, and there is no other. I form light and create darkness; I make well-being and create calamity; I am the Lord, who does all these things.

A Contest of the Gods

Throughout the Bible we see God challenging the gods. Pharoah- Egyptian, Dagon - Philistine (1 Samuel 5 ; Baal - Cannanites
1 Kings 18:21 ESV
And Elijah came near to all the people and said, “How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” And the people did not answer him a word.
1 Kings 18:27 ESV
And at noon Elijah mocked them, saying, “Cry aloud, for he is a god. Either he is musing, or he is relieving himself, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he is asleep and must be awakened.”

He is the Creator

Nehemiah 9:6 ESV
“You are the Lord, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships you.
Revelation 4:11 ESV
“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”
Isaiah 37:16 ESV
“O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, enthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made heaven and earth.
Jeremiah 10:11 ESV
Thus shall you say to them: “The gods who did not make the heavens and the earth shall perish from the earth and from under the heavens.”
Isaiah 45:18 ESV
For thus says the Lord, who created the heavens (he is God!), who formed the earth and made it (he established it; he did not create it empty, he formed it to be inhabited!): “I am the Lord, and there is no other.

He is Unique

The Story of the Trojan war in Greek Mythology was started by the gods. The story is told that Zeus held a banquet but failed to invite Eris “the god of discord”. So she plotted her revenge but placing a golden apple with the inscription “to the most beautiful”. This sparked a feud between Herod, Aphrodite, and Athena. Zeus decided that a man named Paris should decide who among these goddesses deserved the apple. They all offered him many lavish gift but in the end he chose Aphrodite who promised to help secure the most beautiful woman Helen as his wife. The problem is that she was already married to the king of Sparta and of course this sparked the Trojan war.
The so called gods are mischievous like men, they are just like is but a little more powerful. When the Bible describes God it describes Him as Holy this word implies His “otherness”
Psalm 50:21 ESV
These things you have done, and I have been silent; you thought that I was one like yourself. But now I rebuke you and lay the charge before you.
In what ways is God described as unique or different?
Psalm 82 ESV
A Psalm of Asaph. God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment: “How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? Selah Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” They have neither knowledge nor understanding, they walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you; nevertheless, like men you shall die, and fall like any prince.” Arise, O God, judge the earth; for you shall inherit all the nations!
