While on the European Tour, golfer Tiger Woods apologized after he was fined for spitting on the green during the final round of the Dubai Desert Classic. Woods spit after missing a par putt on his way to finishing the tournament with a 3 over par 75. He began that day one shot behind the leader, but had some problems on the first three holes. In a statement, the tour said they had reviewed the matter and believed there had been a breach of the tour code of conduct... Woods agreed, saying “The Euro Tour is right. It was inconsiderate to spit like that and I know better. Just wasn’t thinking and want to say I’m sorry.”

After seeing Woods actions, a television commentator described his actions as “one of the ugliest things you will ever see on a golf course.” After scandal ended his marriage and rocked the golf world, Woods had promised to make my behavior more respectful of the game.” The tour decided to take action because their code of conduct requires members to voluntarily submit themselves “to standards of behavior and ethical conduct beyond those required of ordinary golfers and members of the public.”
