What do I believe God wants them to know? Their is life and death in the power of the tongue
Why? To show them Words matter
What do I believe God wants them to do? Use their words to bring life
Why? We people liberated
ME/WE
We have been and are in sermon series discovering the repeated words of God, through out the scriptures
There are some words and phrases that are not just in one book of the Bible but in several books of the Bible or almost on every page of the Bible.
I believe it is good for us to dive into those WORDS, God doesn’t mince WORDS and He repeats WORDS for emphasis, things that are important
Sort of like we do with some things
How often do we tell a loved one we love them? Once??? no over and over....why? Because we want them to know it and we want them to know that it is important....anniversary…wedding day…I told my child on their birthday.
No, we repeat it over and over for emphasis and importance
We will hear this today as many people will say “Here we go Brownies here we go”
dozens of times
Next we are going to dive into the most repeated verse in all of scripture that proclaims, declares, the goodness of God and who He is.
But before we get there is we are going to we are going to COVER ANOTHER THING ABOUT WORDS…NOT ONLY DO WE REPEAT WORDS EMPHASIS…WE WILL SEE IN A MOMENT OUR WORDS BECAUSE THEY CARRY WEIGHT....A LOT OF OUR WORDS CARRY WEIGHT
NOT WORDS LIKE THE AND AND
THEY CAN BE SPOKE OR WRITTEN OR BODY LANGUAGE GIVEN
AND ALSO IT IS GOOD FOR US TO KNOW THE WEIGHT OF THE WORDS IS INCREASE OR DECREASE BY OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE SENDER, AUTHORITY (PRINCIPAL, BOSS, POLICE, TEACHER, .....MR. DEMANTIS OR THE GREATER RELATIOSHIP WE HAVE WITH THEM)

There is POWER in the WORD
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

ALL OF US KNOW THIS
I gave a couple examples myself of being effect positively by words.
HOW MANY OF US HAVE HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE?
YOUR MOM OR DAD OR BOSS SAID
YOU ARE GIFTED
YOU ARE AMEWSOME
YOU ARE SPECIAL
OR HAVE YOU HAD THE EXPERIENCE OF SOMEONE SAYING POSITIVE WORDS WHEN YOUR DOWN
SOME US MIGHT NEEDS THIS AT 4:30PM AFTER THE BROWNS GAME
LADIES I KNOW THERE IS SOMETHING WEIRD ABOUT 20 YEAR OLD MAN PLAYING A GAME THAT CAN RUIN OUR SUNDAY AND MONDAY
Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.
IT IS ALSO THE OPPOSITE

ALL OF US AT SOME POINT HAVE BEEN “KNOCK DOWN AND OUT” BY WORDS SOMEONE HAS SAID TO YOU OR ABOUT YOU

DO YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW POWERFUL WORDS CAN BE SOMETIMES: Some us had to GO to counseling or are in counseling because of the WORDS that have been spoke to you or WORDS you speak to yourself....most of the WORDS we say to ourselves are not positive
WORDS are not WORDS
We might say Pastor Pete that is not what I was told growing up…I was taught by my mom or dad or teacher a saying that stops WORDS from having power…how people have uttered this incantation when someone said something not nice to you... sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me!!!
It is almost and incantation or spell
It doesn’t matter what you say Eric or Beth…those words are not going to effect me
HOW EFFCTIVE WAS THAT SAYING AGAINST THE WORDS???

WHY IS THIS?

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.
DO YOU SEE WHAT IT SAYS YOUR WORS HAVE THE ABILITY TO BRING
LIFE

DEATH
Whoa God is saying we possess, each one of an ability to either bring LIFE to people or a WEAPON to bring DEATH
We know this
DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS VERSE IS ALSO REFLECTING ON???
GEN 1?
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN GOD SPEAKS? GOD SAID LET THEIR BE LIGHT, WATER, ANIMALS, HUMANS
GOD SPOKE LIFE INTO EXISTANCE
LIFE AND LIBERTY
WHAT HAPPENS IN THE BEGINNING OF GENESIS WHERE THE SATAN SPEAKS? DOES HE BRING LIFE?? NO HE TELLS EVE TO EAT THE FRUIT OF THE TREE THAT GOD INSTUCTED THEM NOT TO EAT FROM AND ADAM AND EVE EAT FROM IT?
DEATH, LITERAL DEATH HAPPENS, WE ALL DIE…GOOD NEWS FOR BELIEVERS GOD REDEEMS FROM THE STING OF DEATH.
WORDS CARRY WEIGHT
THEY ARE NOT MERRY WORDS
AND NOT JUST SPOKEN WORDS BUT WRITTEN WORDS
This is what we see James the brother of Jesus, who did not believe his brother Jesus was the Christ, the Messiah, until after the resurrection....sit on that....I am the Christ…yeah no…but he gets radically converted and because the pillar leader in the church in Jerusalem.
James in his letter which people call the basis Christianity 101....how do we live out the Christian faith takes up almost all of chapter 3, there is 5 chapters on one topic....what is the topic? The power of the tongue
Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.
Do we see what James is saying?
Words carry weight
two of the most dangerous thing that bring the most damage to the church is
false words, false teachings or destructive words
you want to bring DEATH to a church preach false messages…says what God calls a sin not a sin....say Jesus in not the WAY but one of the ways....say there are 50 genders not two....death will come…it is a promise
Not just false words but destructive words....damning words…tearing someone down…and they
MIGHT BE TRUTHFUL BUT NOT FRUITFUL BECAUSE IT IS NOT WHAT THEY SAY BUT HOW THEY SAY IT
WE KNOW THIS RIGHT? RIGHT?
WORDS DO NOT NEED TO BE TRUE TO BE POWERFUL…HOW MANY OF US HAVE BOUGHT INTO LIES AND IT WAS A BLOW TO US??
JAMES SAYS NOT ALL OF US SHOULD BE PUBLIC TEACHERS…THIS IS A REFERENCE TO PUBLIC TEACHING
For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body.
If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well.
Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs.
So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!
And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell.
James look at horses, look ships, look at sparks
they are so small but soooooo powerful!!
A couple pound bit can steer a 1,000lb horse
A rutter steers a boat
One spark burns the forest down
JAMES IS NOT THE SIZE OF THE OBJECT THAT MAKES IT POWERFUL
DO NOT BE DECEIVED BY THE SIZE OF SOMETHING,
SIZE IS NOT COMPATABLE WITH THE POWER
JAMES POINTS OUT HOW THIS POWERFUL THING WE CANNOT FULLY TAME....ANYONE ABLE TO FULLY TAME THEIR TONGUE?
For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind,
but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
JAMES IS SAYING THIS IS A BATTLE WE WILL HAVE OUR WHOLE LIVES....WE WILL NOT MASTER IT FULLY…GET CLOSE
EXPECTATIONS
JAMES SAYS IT IS POWERFUL, IT WILL NOT BE FULLY, AND THEN HE SAYS THE WORST THING WE CAN DO WITH OUR TONGUES IS TO HAVE DOUBLE SPEAK
With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God.
From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.
Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water?
Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water.
With our tongue we are saying hallujah! Praise Jesus!
the next moment we are cursing people man in the image of God…it doesn’t say believer or brother or sister in Christ
God’s creation
James says this cannot be in the church....we are to be the children of life…to speak life and light and liberty into people
I was listening to a podcast this week in interview with a Christian expert on conflict resolution between two different countries or religious groups....the best way to discolve the conflict???? do you know what it is??? to do the oppsite of cursing, which is BLESSING

Pruning and cultivating our heart
we do this by pausing to be with Jesus like Mary
When we do the Lord will prune the death out and put the SPEAK the LIFE in
