Singing in the Victory

Welcome!

Welcome to 0600 Men’s Rally!
Let me tell you why I’m here:
Get men excited about being men. (It's good to be a man).
Get men excited about following the ultimate man.
Equip men with biblical tools to become better men.
URGENCY
Our culture is full of boys in men’s bodies,
the world sees this, calls it “toxic masculinity”
and throws out all masculinity
20 year olds, 30 year olds, 40 year olds 50 year olds… father wounds, hurting, broken, seeking the tribe.
Culture is under attack. The church is under attack.
When men get stronger, everything gets better!

Message
Goal: reclaim a Biblical vision of masculinity built around four identities (roles).
Soldier (Protector), Farmer (Provider), Athlete (Leader), Son (Lover).
2 Timothy 2:1 NIV84
You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 2:2 NIV84
And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.
2 Timothy 2:3–4 NIV84
Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs—he wants to please his commanding officer.
2 Timothy 2:5 NIV84
Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor’s crown unless he competes according to the rules.
2 Timothy 2:6 NIV84
The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops.
Soldier (Protector)
God has given every man in this room something to protect that is currently under attack.
If you’re a man, you’re a protector.
The opposite of protector is predator.

Godly masculinity is strength under control directed toward the services of others.

Toxic masculinity is unbridled strength that takes advantage of others in service of oneself.

1 Chronicles 12:1–2 ESV
Now these are the men who came to David at Ziklag, while he could not move about freely because of Saul the son of Kish. And they were among the mighty men who helped him in war. They were bowmen and could shoot arrows and sling stones with either the right or the left hand; they were Benjaminites, Saul’s kinsmen.
1 Chronicles 12:8 ESV
From the Gadites there went over to David at the stronghold in the wilderness mighty and experienced warriors, expert with shield and spear, whose faces were like the faces of lions and who were swift as gazelles upon the mountains:
1 Chronicles 12:32 NIV84
men of Issachar, who understood the times and knew what Israel should do—200 chiefs, with all their relatives under their command;

Men… who understood (Think) the times (Orient) and knew (Discern) what to do (Act).

TODA

Think / Orient / Discern / Act

Romans 12:1–2 ESV
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Renewal of your mind… (Think)

Your mind is a battlefield that is under constant attack...
You are fed lies
You need to believe the truth (Faith, scripture, promises of God)
Philippians 4:8 ESV
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
2 Corinthians 10:3–6 ESV
For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.

Do not be conformed… (Orient)

Figure out where you’re at
You can’t go where you need to go if you don’t know where you are
The world will swallow you up...

Testing you may discern… (Discern)

It’s not always clear what to do.
We face tough questions every day.
We need discernment to be the protector God’s calling us to be.
Just because you have knowledge, doesn’t mean you are discerning. It doesn’t mean you are wise.
Can you take the things God and discern what is good?

Will of God… (Act)

Romans 12:1–2 ESV
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Squad up!

In what ways do you need to repent?
In what ways do you need to grow?
Pray for one another (go in a circle)
