Abusing Grace 1

Text Romans 6:1-12

Intro: We have been given the name of our Church by the Lord Himself Abounding Grace but there are all to many out there Abusing Grace!
1. Wandering down the wrong path

A lot of good people who think they are still “saved” because of something they did in church a long time ago have been wandering down a slippery path. Foul language, lying, adultery, hatred, un-forgiveness, unfaithfulness, are these things Jesus would do? Then should I do them?

Romans 6:1 through Romans 6:12 (NIV)
1What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?

1. We are more than forgiven, we are dead to sin

Romans 8:37 (NIV)
37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

9Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

c. Children are like tape recorders when it comes to life styles most will live like mommy and daddy!

2. Dead to sin

A Brand new man!
Romans 6:3 through Romans 6:4 (NIV)
3Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

a.       Your life in Christ should be a sinless life.one without hatred, can you control your tongue?

Galatians 5:13–14 (AMP)

13 For you, brethren, were [indeed] called to freedom; only [do not let your] freedom be an incentive to your flesh and an opportunity or excuse [for selfishness], but through love you should serve one another. 14 For the whole Law [concerning human relationships] is complied with in the one precept, You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself.

b.      Living in God’s Love toward each other. (Think about who you don’t like right who you can’t get along with.)

Galatians 5:15–16 (AMP)

15 But if you bite and devour one another [in partisan strife], be careful that you [and your whole fellowship] are not consumed by one another. 16 But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God).

c.        I’m a New Creation!

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

3. We must be dead to all sin!
