TITLE: “Developing The Right Focus Toward The Lost”

TEXT: Luke 15:11-32

ETS: The elder brother is rebuke for his attitude toward his brother’s return.

ESS: Christians need to develop the right focus toward the lost.

OSS: Believers will commit to working with God to win the lost.

PQ: What do I need to do in order to develop the right focus toward the lost?

INTRODUCTION:

I.  RECOGNIZE THE DANGEROUS POSITION OF THE LOST MAN (VSS. 11-21)

A. The lost man has chosen the pathway of rebellion against the Father (vss. 11-13a).

1. Romans 3:23; 5:12

B. The lost man has chosen the pathway of personal destruction (vss. 13b-16).

1. Romans 6:23

C. The lost man must choose to turn from the pathway he has chosen in order to be saved (vss. 17-21)..

II.  REFLECT ON THE HEARTBEAT OF THE FATHER TOWARD THE LOST MAN (VSS. 22-24).

A. The Father’s heartbeat is one of love and compassion toward the lost man (vss. 20).

1. John 3:16; Rom. 5:8

B. The Father’s heartbeat is readiness to receive the confession and repentance of the lost man (vss. 21-22).

C. The Father’s heartbeat is one of joy when the lost man comes home (vss. 23-24).

III.  REJOICE IN THE MIRACLE OF REDEMPTION (VSS. 25-32).

A. Rejoice with the father over the redemption of the lost man (vss. 25-28).

B. Reject the self focus that breeds jealousy (vss. 29-31).
