Hows everything ? We are here again to know God to be known of God and to exalt Christ.
Please keep the Bristols in prayer and Kia has suffered 2 death in the family
Acts 16:16 NKJV
16 Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling.
Some men where exploiting a demon possessed girl for her ability to predict the future.
The greek brings out that she had something called a “python spirit”
The python was the symbol of the famous Delphic oracle and represented the god Apollo, who was believed to render predictions of future events.
Anyone who could predict the future was described as being led by the “python”.
The fact that she was demon possessed can from the fact that she was worshiping idols.
1 Corinthians 10:20 NKJV
20 Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons.
So this women was possessed first spiritually as then economically.
This girl was very valuable, the greeks and Romans put great stock in divination.
See witch craft was a practice that was interwoven through the culture.
No commanders would set out on a major military campaign nor would an emperor make an important decree without first consulting an oracle to see how things might turn out.
Did you know everything that effects the natural realm stems from the spiritual realm.
If your soul isn’t right then its gonna effect every aspect of who you are.
How we view God reveals how you relate to ourselves and Gods people.
See God isn’t trying to make you good. He’s bringing you into sainthood.
Sainthood is our sanctification.
I have one friend that was so focused on trying to be good. He even came to church because He wanted to be good. He wanted everyone to believe that he was a good solid person.
- He work out everyday “I want to be good to my body”
- I’m advancing in my career and I want to be good financially
- I’m reading a great deal I want to be sharp witty cleaver good.
- He was married his wife wanted God sainthood, spiritual maturation .
- That wasn't good enough for this gentlemen.
- So he found a gift friend who he looked good with. Had a afair.
- Then the girl he had an afair with was looking for the same things good.
- She left him he went into depression got a divorce lost his job started using drugs all his hard work to try to be good went down the drain.
Allot of us want good without God.
The thing about good is that theres never enough good.
Because want we really want isn’t good at all its glory.
God wants to glorify us but its not the same way we are glorified.
Romans 8:30 NKJV
30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.
Predestined - That means God determines before your destiny, namely , conformity to the image of Christ.
You where predestined to glorify Christ. Christ will be exalted as the first born among many brothers.
Between start to finish of God’s plan are three steps:
Called
Romans 1:6 (NKJV)
6 among whom you also are the called of Jesus Christ;
Romans 8:28 (NKJV)
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
2. Justified
Romans 3:24 NKJV
24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
Romans 3:28 NKJV
28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.
Romans 4:2 NKJV
2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.
Romans 5:1 NKJV
1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Being justified means that God is satisfied with the penalty that Christ paid for our sins. That means there no longer need to be a price or a sacrifice for my sin.
Sometimes sainthood can look evil in peoples minds.
Acts 16:17 NKJV
17 This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.”
Paul was getting frustrated by the slave girl because she was associating her possession with the true and living God.
In other words she was making it seem like she was
The greeks believed in a polytheistic god. So Jesus could’ve easily been lumped in the same category.
Acts 16:18–24 NKJV
18 And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour. 19 But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to the authorities. 20 And they brought them to the magistrates, and said, “These men, being Jews, exceedingly trouble our city; 21 and they teach customs which are not lawful for us, being Romans, to receive or observe.” 22 Then the multitude rose up together against them; and the magistrates tore off their clothes and commanded them to be beaten with rods. 23 And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely. 24 Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.
Acts 16:25 NKJV
25 But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
Ephesians 5:19 NKJV
19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,
Psalms are referring to the instruments that are played (such as harps etc.), hymns the praise composed by Christians. the words . Together they make spiritual songs .
The psalm /instrument is for the Christians, the Hymns that we sing is for God.
See that why I dont harp on the idea about what kind of music more so I empasis what are the content . the instrument's vary from culture to culture.
1 Corinthians 14:26 (NKJV)
26 How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.
Colossians 3:16 (NKJV)
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
James 5:13 (NKJV)
13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms.
