Philippians 3:10 NKJV
10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,
I order for a person to know someone they must acquaint themselves with that person.
When we talk about “Acquaint” we sometimes refer to a casual knowledge or a casual relationship.
Acquainting ourselves with a person causes us to know a person not just by sight or through a common friend…but to know that person in detail and in learning what exactly that person is all about.
If you where a special agent and your boss told you that you needed to get acquainted with a certain person.....
what he would be saying is: I need you to learn all you can about this person
what makes them tick
what they do for a living
what they do for fun
what kinds of hobbies do they have.
One of the reasons that marriages fail…is because one or both, the husband or the wife, fails to really get to know their spouse.
There was a scene in the movie “Phenomenon” ...
about John Travolta buying this woman's chairs
the doctor said, while talking to some men in a bar he said....John Travolta has a woman that is sticking with him (by his side)....all because he bought her chairs.
the other man was having marital problems and the doctor asked him…have you ever bought her chairs (his wife)
in other words....did he ever find out what was important to his wife…what makes her tick....
in a marriage…Acquainting yourself with the other side, is the glue that can actually hold a marriage together and make it work.
why would he buy so many.
Hosea 4:6 NKJV
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.
When we want to get to know someone as more than just a friend or in more detail....we acquaint ourselves with that person.
this holds true in getting to know a profession or a hobby or a life style.
Isaiah 53:3–5 NKJV
3 He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. 4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

ACQUAINT; ACQUAINTANCE Terms referring to various degrees of knowledge, but implying more or less detailed information;

dOl Aqueynten ,  v.  to become known, Ol l dOl Aqueynten ,  v.  to become known, Aqueynten ,  v.  to become known, Aqueynten v.  to become known,
Acquaint;Acquaintance: Terms referring to various degrees of knowledge, but implying more or less detailed information;
applied to God’s omniscience (Ps. 139:3), to the grief of the Suffering Servant of the Lord (Isa. 53:3), and to the knowledge which man should have of God.
Medieval Latin omniscientia, from Latin omni- + scientia knowledge — more at SCIENCE
Omni-: All: Universally
Scientia: Knowledge, Science
complete meaning: To seek after All Knowledge or understanding.
To not merely scratch the surface...but to get to know on a deeper level...on a more personal level
To seek knowledge of something in a much more detailed way.
the state of knowing knowledge as distinguished from ignorance or misunderstanding
a department of systematized knowledge as an object of study: the science of theology
Similarly: The organized study or knowledge of something
As in: (per the example) the science of theology: or the study and understanding of Gods ways
The noun in the concrete, unless limited by a qualifying term, means more than one who has been known simply in passing, and implies a degree of intimacy, as may be seen in Lk. 2:44; 23:49;
2 Timothy 3:13–17 KJV 1900
13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
lets take a look again at hosea 4:6
Hosea 4:6 KJV 1900
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: Because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: Seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
A lack of knowledge: implying a person that is lacking knowledge and unlearned.
because you have rejected knowledge:
How can a person reject knowledge if they don’t have knowledge in the first place (can a person reject something they don’t have?)
they have rejected it by choosing to not study or look into the things of God...
We have chosen to not acquaint ourselves with God.
We’ve all heard the saying “ignorance is not an excuse”
if we worked for a company and our boss was to give us a handbook and said “I want you to acquaint yourself with this handbook...what would he be meaning?
He would be expecting you to know what is required and what we can and can’t do according to that particular handbook.
If we violated a policy that was in the handbook...we would have no excuse.
