Two Things Standing in the Way of Obedience

God’s Principle of Little and Much

Luke 16:10–11 ESV
“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches?

How one does with what is little is a clear indicator of how one will do with much.

If someone you want to get to know more treats you poorly or lies to you, you can be sure that they will continue to do that once you decide to marry them, or go into business with them.
This principle applies in your Christian walk - praying, studying, meditation and application
Philippians 4:6–7 ESV
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 2:15 ESV
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
Philippians 4:8 ESV
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
1 Corinthians 11:1 ESV
Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.

Two Things Standing in the Way of Obedience To this Principle

2 Kings 5:1 ESV
Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master and in high favor, because by him the Lord had given victory to Syria. He was a mighty man of valor, but he was a leper.

Naaman was a great man highly esteemed the eyes of his King and servants

Mighty man in valor
2 Kings 5:3 ESV
She said to her mistress, “Would that my lord were with the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.”
2 Kings 5:5 ESV
And the king of Syria said, “Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel.” So he went, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold, and ten changes of clothing.
2 Kings 5:10 ESV
And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored, and you shall be clean.”
2 Kings 5:11 ESV
But Naaman was angry and went away, saying, “Behold, I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call upon the name of the Lord his God, and wave his hand over the place and cure the leper.

1. Pride

People who have been lifted up, been exalted, achieved great things, and have been recognized for their achievements may be upset, angry or even furious when things don’t go their way.
He had to get rid of his anger, then his pride, in order to get rid of his leprosy
Proverbs 16:18 ESV
Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
Pride stands between the Christian and doing God’s will
Pride stands between people and obeying the Gospel
James 4:6 ESV
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
Titus 2:11 ESV
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people,
Grace is offered and available to everyone, but not bestowed to everyone because all men do not submit to the conditions of God’s will
Romans 14:11–12 ESV
for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.
Pride gets in the way of admitting you’re wrong

2. Preconceived Ideas

2 Kings 5:11 ESV
But Naaman was angry and went away, saying, “Behold, I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call upon the name of the Lord his God, and wave his hand over the place and cure the leper.
What did Naaman “think”
What some Christian’s think - what are their preconceived ideas
What does the alien sinner think
Except Jesus into your heart
Pray the sinner’s prayer
